And that's one seat - only just, because the Greens got 9% and no seats. Does anyone know what percentage the BNP picked up in European elections last time?
One day the main political parties might wake up, take their heads from out of the sand and realise that immigration is a major issue to many voters. Until they do parties such as the BNP will continue to increase their % of the vote.
immigration is a major issue to many voters Only because they are stupid and ill-informed. How many people have left the UK during the same period? Gosh we don't have accurate numbers. But there thought to be more than a million young men that have vanished from the UK over the last 15 years, thought to be working elsewhere in Europe. I know several, I bet most of the BNP voters do also. Are they demanding their mates should be sent home?
Oh no... these things don't work two ways do they? What about the almost alll English villages in Spain? Only decent places as they tend to have a bit of brass but are still corners of Britain in another country...
It's all well and good this taking the piss out of why the BNP got votes But unless someone actually addresses the fears of those who voted for them (whether they are justly felt or not) rather than just telling them they are wrong, then parties like the BNP will flourish. </p> The mainstream parties need to pay attention to what voters say, rather than pressure groups and lobbyists. If not then I fear for this country. </p>
How many British ex-pats work for a living? Most of them i bet unlike the situation here. I have an uncle who left to work in Holland and he was entitled to nothing until he had contributed for a long enough period to qualify. There are far too many economic immigrants coming here to take out and give nothing back in return.
So which is it? We hear on the one hand that the economy can't cope with the number of people coming in taking our jobs, and on the other hand that the evil foreigners don't come here to work and are sponging off the welfare state. Both of these arguments are woefully ill thought out and based on scaremongering, misinformation and sweeping assumptions - what's inarguable is that more than 15% of the people in Barnsley are happy to have a former leader of the National Front representing them in Europe.
And no one seems to consider who it is employing the Eastern Europeans on wages that undercut British workers. British managers.
'We' For a start should give up with this attack of the vapours some get on here..."Oh I'm so offended" "Be ashamed of yourselves.."</p> yes, yes, all very nice cos everyone on here is oh so enlightened blah blah.</p> What 'we' should do is take a more active interest in the political process - even if that means tactically voting against racist parties, because I bet a pound to a pinch of **** that loads on here, including some of the more offened by the BNP didn't bother to vote.</p> However, it seems to me that at national level, the main parties have detached so much even from their paid up members and are blinded by being in power and are hamstrung by a fear of what the Daily Mail, Sun, Guardian or BBC will say about them, that policy is made on the hoof and ally that to how influential unelected quangos are, then Mr Man in the Street is quite justified in thinking his vote doesn't change anything - when PR in the Euro elections shows quite blatantly that it does. </p>
Hold a national opinion poll. </p> About ten questions. Tick as many options as you like.</p> e.g. -</p> Which of these do you find worrying about our current immigration policy?</p> 1. Abuse of the benfits system?</p> 2. Organised crime.</p> 3. Petty/street crime.</p> 4. Unsustainable numbers.</p> 5. Growth in the muslim population.</p> etc</p> We'd have to be bold with the questions and make sure to address every possible concern regardless of who thinks they're "stuid and ill-informed."My guess is the %response to being actually asked what we think and want would be far in excess of the turn-out to vote.</p> The parties would then have the chance to respond appropriately or attempt to answer and correct misinformation and unfounded fears.</p>
More than 15% of 30% Get it right will ya! I'd make that 4,5% of the population of Barnsley! Not that much is it?
Don't think you've thought that one out. </p> I believe the fear is that, whether an immigrant takes a job and places a local on the dole or doesn't work and claims benefits himself, the situation is that there is one more person claiming benefits in a country with a finite number of jobs.</p> I'm not saying that's what I think, just that, whether it's true or not, the logic isn't flawed.</p>
