So why does Davey keep playing him there?

His reason: "Because Bobby is a defensive minded player..."

Hassell is a great defender, however - to play that holding midfield role, you have to have that little bit extra. Just being able to defend is NOT enough. Hassell is not creative, he's not got vision and he's not the most athletic.

Claude Makelele is a maestro at that position, not just because he can tackle, but becaus he has the ability to break up the play and then get things moving forward, by either finding a more creative mind in midfield or starting up the attack himself.

Against QPR and against Southend on Friday, Hassell looked LOST. He put a few decent tackles in and overall - DIDN'T do too bad, I'm not going to critiscise him as he's not playing in his chosen position.

If Davey is insistent on playing a DM, then he needs a DM. Togwell is not my favourite player in the world, but he's better in that position than Hassell, Johnson may not be fit - but if he was, he would be in. Someone like Ronnie Wallwork, someone in that same vein would be perfect...Hassell isn't, and he looked a liabilty on Friday night.
