Sorry, but Hassell's not and never will be a central midfielder. 1 or 2 decent performances don't change that - he's been crap there 90% of the time and it just makes no sense whatsoever. Its not his fault, he's a championship full back but he's a non-league central midfielder.

I still don't rate him but he is probably the best man for the job.

There is probably a valid reason that Davey's continues to play Bobby in that role.

I would trust Davey's judgement, after working all week with the players in training , over that of a fan who does not.

Sorry, but hes not. If Davey genuinely sees Bobby Hassell as a central midfielder, then we have a serious problem.

You're perfectly entitled to think that hes a good central midfielder. I'm perfectly entitled to say that if you think he's a good central midfielder, I believe you're deluded, and I believe Simon Davey's deluded.

Better than Sam Togwell in central midfield? Really? The game passes him by there. He dallies on the ball, he loses the ball. He has no pace. I don't see what assets he has that would make him a central midfielder apart from that he can occasionally make a tackle.

I like Bobby as a full back, but as a central midfielder? We'll be in the bottom 3 when Anderson returns if Hassell is in the side until then. Without any doubt in my mind. We can't afford to carry a passenger in that position.

You're wrong. It's because he's a stubborn w@nker who puts himself before the club.

Do you think anyones actually though that statement through? Writing it myself makes me realise what a load of **** it is.

did I say he was good?

I'll tell you what, he's certainly not good enough as a full back.

RE: did I say he was good?

Do you think he's better in central midfield than he is at full back?

Do you think he's a better central midfielder than Sam Togwell?

Do you think we really should allow Bobby Hassell to stay in central midfield until Anderson De Silva returns?

    No,yes, no

but alas we currently don't have better for CM and we have better options both at CH and full back.

BTW I've seen plenty of good midfielders. Neither BH (4.5/10) or ST (4.2/10) are in that category. Johnson perhaps could be an option, but the manager, in full knowledge of all the circumstances, thinks not.

    If Hassell is a 4.5/10...

We must have had some bloody awful central midfielders.

I just don't understand when Simon Davey suddenly thought "We have Bobby Hassell. He can defend okay, but he can't pass, he can't run, he can't create, he can't shoot and he takes a long time to make decisions when he has the ball. He'll be perfect for central midfield."

Anderson's been injured since February. This situation should have been dealt with by July 1st, and not just with one new central midfielder. If he'd decided that Togwell and Johnson weren't good enough, and he knew Anderson was out til the end of September and may never be the same again, I just can't fathom how bringing one midfielder in from Argentina to replace Togwell, Johnson and Hassell as central midfield options could ever be viewed as a sufficient piece of work.

There's no way in a million Sundays...

That Hassell's better in midfield than Togwell.

I don't care if someone on here says it, our manager, Alan Hansen, Alex Ferguson or the Pope. It's simply not true.

Howard and Togwell worked together really well in our first season back up, I interviewed Brian Howard a number of times and he said he really enjoyed playing there with Togwell.

This is backed up by the fact that Howard got forward a lot more and was better the season before lost when alongside Togwell. He was only up to that level on an attacking basis when alongside De Silva.

Maybe Sam isn't quite good enough to be a regular Championship midfielder yet, but as has been said, for however much Bobby Hassell's a decent defender, if we continue with him in there for long, we'll be in trouble.

    In my opinion like.

    Well...

I, and thousands of other fans, have watched Togwell in midfield for many dozen games, and Hassell for probably 20-odd.

I'm not bothered who's better in training, but I know from all the MATCHES I've seen them both in, it's no contest.

Training does not mean a toss...

if it doesn't work on match day. He had all summer to sort this out and he hasn't. You could argue he signed colace but now we prob won't see him play. It is the most important postion on the pitch and an average defender cannot fullfill it.

    Absolutely...

I think judging on how people play in games is a better yardstick.

    Right then...

if you think we are so wrong. Tell me why you think he should play there. Not because Davey knows best. Why you as a Barnsley fan watching him play there, What do you think he brings to the team by playing there?
