Won headers, won tackles, gets it, gives it to Hourihane/Williams and we're off... But apparently, Bailey's there to do all that.
As every gash performance passes, I say exactly the same thing - Hassell would STILL be first on my team sheet
Oh, and throw in the mass of experience he had. The game knowledge, the BFC knowledge. Even if not involved every week, I still believe he'd be ideal in certain games. Even if dropping to right back. Because you can't tell me Brown's any better? He makes me crave Wiseman...
I was one of Bobby's greatest fans back in the day and there is no doubt that the Bobby Hassel of 4 years ago would have walked into this team. However, he is now 34 years of age and has had to go to India to find work. That suggests to me that he is not the player he was, and that no other manager of an English League team thinks he has any thing to offer. In fairness, no Barnsley fan has seen enough of him recently to dispute that judgement. I just think that Bobby keeps getting brought up because we have no-one else worthy of our esteem.
Andy I was genuinely about to post exactly the same thing. I was going to ask if he'd already gone to India because if he hasn't then Danny should be on the phone to him first thing tomorrow morning.
You could be right, pal. But I can only judge him on what I saw, and whenever he played he looked sound to me. I think you're definitely right though in suggesting he's only brought up because we've nobody capable of fulfilling the role I assume he could have done.
He's gone, mate. Search for Bharat FC on twitter/facebook. He's been in a lot of their press photos recently.
That's a shame because I still think he had a year, maybe two, in him at this level. What price has experience.
I love Wilson, but his abandoning of Hassell baffles me. To think he selected the likes of Woods and Frimpong over a club legend... Like you, I can only judge Bobby on games in which he featured. He never looked past it or slow to me. In fact, didn't our best runs under Hill/Flitcroft come when he was in the team? I'm appreciating the likes of Foster and Hassell more and more recently. What we'd do for 7/10 experienced performers now...
Id have kept Him He may have had the odd yellow card or sending off for a late tackle, but his experience and the positives would defo have out weighed the negatives
Whilst I'd love to have Bobby still here, he'd have the exact same problems Bailey has had which is midfielders alongside him that offer no defensive cover & want to join in every attack. You can be the best tackler in the world but if you're outnumbered they'll just pass it round you
Would love to know the true reason why he wasn't signed on especially for this division.non of the last three managers rated him whether that's because of injuries or personal I don't know but its definitely not lack of ability or still being able to do a job especially this league and this team.
Agree, he had a trial at Bratfud in the summer, and got a thanks but no thanks.. I liked Bobby as much as the next fan. But people do have to let the past go.
