<p class="editorial">From Barnsley1 </p><p class="editorial"> The Maltese international has certainly got the knack of scoring goals with six goals in eight games this summer. </p><span class="editorial"> As a result it looks like Simon Davey will reward him with a starting place against Coventry City. <span class="editorial"> Talking about the striker issue and who to play, Simon Davey said, "You want strikers to perform and score goals and Bogdanovic has come off the bench twice in three games and scored. I would be a fool to ignore that. Macken scored on Saturday and Odejayi has had chances. Each one gives you something different so it is a good headache to have. <span class="editorial">"What I am going to try and do this season is reward players who score goals. If they are scoring, then my opinion is they should be in the side. If you are not scoring then you sit it out. This will create competition within the group to stay in the side. <span class="editorial">"What I speak to Daniel about is that the British game is completely different to what he has played before. What I demand is not just scoring goals, but to compete, run the channels, link up play and be a team player. <span class="editorial"> "I will admit I didn't feel over the last six to eight weeks that Daniel had given that extra to be in the starting eleven. If he had he would have been in their. Jon has done it, Kayode has done it in pre-season, but they live and die by their goals and we have to find the happy medium that Daniel can give us everything and his goals. If he can't do that and can only give us the goals then I need the other one to do his workload for him. It's finding the balance." <span class="editorial">Bogdanovic has become a fans favourite and as a regular starter he has the self-confidence that he can get plenty of goals for the Reds. </span></p></span></p></span></p></span></p></span></p></span>
Good. Seems like Davey wants a bit more work from Boggy. I thought that he didn't do too much wrong to be fair, and i've not really seen him as lazy. If he keeps scoring though, for me, he can sit in an armchair when the opposition have the ball.
"What I demand is not just scoring goals, but to compete, run the channels, link up play and be a team player. " Is basically what I was trying to say earlier this week. Gray and Hume. witcockart.
I quite like it when they get into the box. We have this interesting tactic of having strikers collecting the ball outwide and then putting it into the box for, er.... *Revolutionary thought* the wingers run the lines and both the strikers attack the six yard box to get on the end of the ball in. Could we end up scoring more goals?
not lately, but yes i've seen them. you know the point i was trying to make. get he best finisher starting games
point I wa smaking, all those strikers put a shift in down the channels and created the space and oppourtunites for the midfielders to push forward and create a chance.
Behave Our strikers like getting chalk on their boots.</p> Nosebleeds all round when they get near the 6 yard line. </p>
Boggy put in a shift for his goal the other night, tracked the defender down and forced the error when others would have given up. Need more like him who have a 'never say die' attitude (Y).
Always puts a shift in ......... ...... not sure where SD has been looking if he thinks the guy doesn't graft enough
Totally agree. Grafted when he was put out wide last season too. Not sure where SD's coming from on that basis.
Bogdanovic and Macken to start. OJ to come on with 25 to go and give the defence a big strong fast thing to think about, distracting them enough for butter balls to get another. Barnsley to win 2-1. Or winning 2-1 at 85 minutes. Game finishing 2-2
"What I am going to try and do this season is reward players who score goals. If they are scoring, then my opinion is they should be in the side. If you are not scoring then you sit it out." im glad he's picked that up cos thats what everyone bloody else at Oakwell's been thinking!!
True, and I agree with him for once .......... ..... but if his policy is now to pick players who score goals, it doesn't say a lot for the faith he's shown in KO, cos that's the one thing he hardly ever does!
RE: True, and I agree with him for once .......... If his policy is to pick players who score goals are we going to have 11 on the pitch ever?
