Will the players be holding out for everyone else thats not been paid by the club. All the support staff and suppliers thats probably owed more than a months money, I doubt it.
In fairness to them, yes, they have. They made the same threat recently in support of the club staff who hadn't been paid.
Cant see ot they are already down, if they actually did go out of business it would be from further down where extra promotion and less relegation would be needed to balance things back out.
Luckily for the efl they only have Brentford and Forest to play. Neither involved in promotion or relegation issues. Can just give both of them 3-0 wins. Unless rules say that all Bolton’s points are void and then it really could hit the fan.
Did they have a vote on this, is it legal? If it were the Miners we would have not been allowed to strike.
Expunging their record would I think only apply if they cease to exist before the end of the season. Awarding the game to the opponents with a 3-0 win would be the expected outcome for a team that still exists but which fails to fulfill a fixture. Like you say, it seems straightforward enough to give Brentford and Forest a 3-0 win as it doesn't really affect much. If they do still exist next season though, they can expect to be clobbered hard for the offense. I am thinking 12 point deduction to start the season with.
I was trying to work it out this morning. Most likely is that only two would go down from the Championship, the 4th bottom side in L1 would be reprieved, as would the 2nd bottom side in L2.
I agree. Championship is unaffected because Bolton were down anyway. Whether the gap in L1 is filled by reprieving the 4th bottom side in L1 or by promoting an extra side from L2 would depend perhaps on the timing of Bolton's demise but it is likely to be too late to rearrange play off arrangements so it would be done by saving the last relegated side in each division.
Could they have not just played their academy lads to fufil a fixture with nothing riding on it. I'm sure lads of around 17-19 who have never played for the first team would have played given a chance.
The academy kids would presumably want to show solidarity with the pros though. The reason the pros are doing this is because it is their last lever they have left in the hope it can force someone to pay them to get the fixture on. Makes it all in vain if the academy kids take their place and get the game played anyway.
It is a shame that they are already relegated. Dropping them in it, and relegating the normal bottom 3 would only be fair, and (I'm not being biased here, honest) automatically promoting the top 3 in league one top four have had an amazing season to be fair. This would also give 7th place a chance at the playoffs. Wishful thinking? Probably.
