Three of our directors from the last ten years or so don't use their real name. Peter Ridsdale's first name is Robert Barry Taylor's first name is Charles Gordon Shepherd's first name is James I found this interesting as I myself am known by my middle name (no idea why) but didn't think this was very common as if I have to explain it to anyone they seem totally confused. It's a f**king nightmare sometimes as well, if I accidentally use the first name I'm known by on anything official it causes no end of grief. The assumption is that I'm trying to commit some kind of fraud, when in reality my actual first name is completely alien to me. A mate once booked me on a flight for a stag to - gave him my passport number, totally forgot to tell him what my 'real' name was and the flight was booked under the wrong name. Luckily just a cheapo but cost nearly as much as the flight to change it.
I can understand why Taylor chooses not to use his original name. He wouldn't want to be confused with the naughty ex-leader of Liberia.
