Can anyone recommend a decent carpet place, doesn't have to be tarn, anywhere in South Yorks will do. Places like carpet right etc are just such a rip-off
small independent carpet shop at the bottom of melton high st, west-melton. Good prices and has some quality in store. Only a small concern and if approached in a proper way you can barter the price.
Get to Hansons (back of Post Office in tarn). Just had my living room done. Great job & a great price.
Places like Carpet Right are OK as long as you only buy carpets from them. They are cheap but then they sting you on underlay accessories. Get your door strips and underlay from Geoff Blackburn on Barnsley semi-open market and you can save a bomb. If you know anyone who fits or can get a recommendation it's better than the lotto with the big chains. They basically subcontract and put a disclaimer on the invoice saying it's an "introduction service to a third party fitter" so they have no responsibility for the job. Example - did the above with bedroom and stair carpets from carpet right. 2 separate fitters came. Bedroom - lovely job, fitters tidied up and everything. Stairs and landing they left the place a tip and couldn't wait to get out. I gave them a roll of bin bags for the offcuts but they just opened all the bedroom doors and threw the waste across the nearest room. I later found a big scratch down a wardrobe door where my old joining strip from under the door had been thrown at it and by the next day the plaster was coming off the walls where they'd been working.
Cheers all ... I'll give a few of the suggestions a try ... at least until Jonathon tells me that the carpets really aren't that good and despite being 100% wool they will inevitably rot in the next two months ... ff
