Last night I was in Retro (or whatever it's called these days), went outside for a cigarette and stood by the door opposite a longish queue to get in. On finishing my cig I walked straight back in only for moments later to be grabbed aggressively by a bouncer and dragged out backwards with my heels scraping along the floor and then told to go to the back of the queue. On what planet is this acceptable behaviour, and why do bouncers feel that they have the authority to do this? If they took exception to me going straight back in without queuing then surely a tap on the shoulder and a conversation would have been the best course of action.
They are just insecure and relish their chance to feel powerful. I just find it a bit embarrassing when they try talking down to me.
I DJ in various venues in Leeds. Some venues have their own security & are brilliant. Others use contract & many of them start loads of trouble, just to try & justify their existence. Often they just spot someone who they think "looks like they might cause trouble".
Disapointing that but majority of bouncers are decent folk who do anything for an easy night because they don't get paid extra for the bother of having to get physical with drunks.
Most of the ones I've met / worked with (ex soldiers) are decent lads who do a difficult job trying to make sure the rest of us have a decent and safe night out. Then there is the minority who are immature thugs with the social skills of a cobra. These need to be taken out of the industry because they spoil it for the good blokes.
