With Holgate for £1 000 000 Plus others interested https://twitter.com/broadcastmoose/status/629544076363362304 Think Bournemouth would be a decent move for him as he might be able to play a few games and if they go down, he could become a regular next season
Agree. Plus it's a lovely place to live. Although he is a brave man to turn down United think it's the right decision. How the hell are we only getting £1m for him when half the premiership want him!!
Because we don't know how good he is? Because we're incompetent? Because his eyes are too fish like? Who knows
I might ring up Bournemouth and say 'psst offer a million + a scoreboard and he's yours'. Failing that, I'd accept a million and a tin of red paint.
Bournemouth the perfect move for us. If we stick a 15% sell on clause on he could easily make us another 2-3 million. Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk
Thats not a bad idea actually, i'd take a scoreboard over cash + a player. unless that player is Callum Wilson
Just remember that we will not know exactly what we are given. It could be more. A Twitter account like that isn't going to have much inside info so isn't the most believable source
Good point!! It really isn't in Barnsleys interest for every club to hear we have got £3m+ I actually think the club, and Mansford/Cryne in particular would not sell him for peanuts. But they would rather get a bit of flack for a year until the annual statement comes out than let every selling club know we have ££ to spend.
Vaz Te, Butterfield, Hammill, Davies, Stones... (not an exhaustive list, obviously) History tells us we're more likely to get £100k than £1m. Paying off players and managers repeatedly while failing to get above market value (lets not deny many clubs manage this in the lower leagues) for our own players is a very unhealthy mix.
Exactly right. I think if we get between £1-2 million plus a sell-on clause that's fair given the amount of experience he has and how long he has left on his contract
Zzzzzzzz. Still think his agent is sticking his name in the press. No genuine offer yet and he's had to go on trial somewhere? Someone is trying very hard to get him a move.
I think this point shows more that contracts need to be sorted more efficiently rather than transfer fees themselves. The club have got better at this and obviously when someone, like Holgate, doesn't want to sign a contract, we can't do anything about it The fees aren't that bad taking all things into account: £500k for Vaz Te with 6 months left on contract £1.3 million for Butterfield with contract expired (under 24) Don't know about Hammill £300k for Davies with 6 months left on contract £2.2 million potentially rising to between £6 and £7 million for Stones after sell-on clause
I think you need to get the accurate transfer fees and put the context of the player at the time of transfer.
You jest but could be onto something. We keep knocking back the scoreboard due to cost when it will be paid for by companies advertising on it which will mean we won't be out of pocket with it. So why not ask for one in a deal for a player
Is he a £1m+ player, potentially. But we have seen lots of potential here of the years that has flattered to decieve us. Its frustrating when other young stars such as Tyrone Mings go for big money. But he is only worth as much as clubs are willing to pay... I rate him but if he doesn't want to be here and play for the Reds let him go! And if we get £1m for him we can hopefully reinvest into the squad. Even better if we add in a sell on clause and/or player exchange. £1m can buy alot in L1, and could mean targets change from smart price with potential to proven quality!
Plus we've openly said we are waiting on what happens with Mason before anymore business, which to clubs will make them think we are skint so they can get him cheaply.
The fees were undisclosed. The reputed fee for Vaz Te was significantly less than the £500k initially rumoured. Davies and Hammill were contractual so assumed youre not far off £500 and £300k respectively (both were among hottest prospects at the time of their sales though) and Butterfield was also supposed to sub £1m when expectations were more than double that at the time. And then Stones. Sold for less than the minimum his manager publicly said he was worth at a press conference not long before his sale.
But whatever the fees, if we'd had the players on longer contracts, there's no doubt we'd have got more money. Same goes with Holgate. If he'd signed a new 3 year deal, for example, we could be getting double or treble what we will get now. Is he worth more than a million with 1 year left on his contract? Hard to say
