Well, it seems that Brendan is soon to be coaching my nephew (Calgary Tyke's Son), in Calgary.

My sister is going to be interviewed for the Calgary Blizzard Website, and has asked if anyone can come up with any better memories than my offering of frequently seeing him in Japanese Whispers; and her memory of him being referred to as "Brenda" .

I liked him as a player - energetic and lively and chipped in with goals. Can't really remember specific goals though.

    My fave BFC player.

Rather than rely on our dodgy memories, why not look at the South Riding section? The fanzine coincided with Brendan in his pomp.

One of my best memories was his goal against Leeds away in 1990. We were looking at relegation and Leeds hadn't been beat at home all season. From losing 1-0 we won 2-1 with goals from Brendan and, I think, Archdeacon. Another visit to Whispers followed!

Sadly the fanzines are no longer online. All the links from the SR forum are now dead.

My first hero. Still one of the best I've seen for us. I'd tell you to tell him I love him but I tell him on twitter on a daily basis.

I remember the announcer at Rotherham called him Barry O Connell before a pre season friendly once and then later in the game one of the Rotherham players kicked him in the head while he was on the ground ref ordered the Rotherham bench to sub him off (while they were allowed to do that during friendlies)

can remember a few important goals. he scored an important winning header against notts county at home in the season we nearly made the play offs, notts county were our big rivals for the play offs (i think thay went up that year thru the play offs) machin was the manager. seem to remember him scoring a late beauty against WBA last game of the previous season in a 2-2 draw. That was the season they dicked us 7-1 at their place. Obviously the elland road goal stands out most...with Gerry Taggart doing his dance in front of us after the final whistle. good player

Was a cracking player. Gave everything for BFC. I remember him getting the winner against Sheff Utd at Oakwell. I think it was the season that the Ponty End was closed to fans. He scored into an empty Ponty end. And I'm pretty sure he got the only goal when we beat Newcastle 1v0 at Oakwell. The goal was at the old Kop end which was bursting with Geordies. I also remember that crucial win at Leeds.
