When they did a voxpop for "Remaking Barnsley"... They asked what the good folk would most like to see.
No 1 choice was a bigger Primark.

Brian Sez NEW Barnsley skipper Brian Howard has sounded a rallying cry to the Reds stayaway supporters ahead of Saturday's clash with Norwich City. Brian told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk: "Things have not been this good at Oakwell since the Premier League season and the year Barnsley reached the Play Off Final. "We need our supporters to come down and join with us as we look to take this Club even higher." The club really need to get the message out via other advertising channels. They are preaching to the converted via the website.
And also... .... put up some REGULAR incentives for folk to come along. Cheap deals for kids, family tickets and the like. I get about two chances a season to get to Oakwell and, tbh, it's just too expensive - can do cinema (guaranteed entertainment!) and a slap-up feed for wayyy less than it would be for me to pitch up at Oakwell with the kids. Oakwell should be full, whatever it takes. Season-ticket holders start moaning?? Easy, give them significant reductions on next year's ticket. In the current economic climate facing the game, there really is no excuse anymore. It's the simplest of arguments, and one I have never seen successfully opposed. If the choice is between a half-full ground, with everyone satisfied no-one's getting in cheaper than them, or a packed Oakwell, topped up with folk who've paid a tenner, kids a fiver, swinging from the bleedin' roof and singing for 90 minutes, then, well.....there isn't actually a choice after all, is there? The club would profit financially and, hopefully, the team would benefit from the extra support. As far removed from rocket science as you could possibly get.
Got to admit, i didnt renew my season ticket last season and so far this ive been to 2 games Coventry Crystal Palace I just cant bring myself to pay £21 for an hour and halfs entertainment if they did deals like 2 matches for £30 or £35 i would be interested but at the moment its really not bothering me not going.
RE: Brian Sez "Things have not been this good at Oakwell since the Premier League season" - Not quite, what about 1999/2000 season?!
Sorry if it sounds like I'm being rude, but why do you (others) bother coming on here if you don't care about going to games!! I know some people can't get for whatever reason, but others say they prefer to go to cinema etc. Fair enough, but to me the match is the main thing about your football club, if I chose not to go I would hate coming on here as I would feel sad missing out on the games!! I don't earn that much money, but it's £20 - 23 times a season - or buy a pass like I do, you get 23 games for the price of 15!!!
RE: Brian Sez He mentioned that as well!!! But I think we are more stable/secure now than we was then! That season was do or bust!!
Totally agree, I'm a season ticket holder but would love to see Oakwell full every week. If that means selling £10 tickets, kid for a quid, free tickets to schools, etc then so be it. I make my commitment at the start of the season for a saving. The players would benefit from not seeing thousands of empty seats. It doesn't stop at tickets though. Extra fans means more programmes, merchandise, food sold. Kids may get hooked and want to come back, maybe even purchase a season ticket next year. For all the good work the board have done in balancing the books, supporting the manager, etc I feel that they miss out on this key area. If they cracked it then the books would look even better.
Two games, £15 to get in 10 and 8 thou respectively. A month ago the argument was reduce the price for pay on the day to £15 and see them come rolling through the turnstyles. Now, we need to make it a tenner. Im sorry, them apples just dont add up. The fact of the matter is Barnsley is a poor community and that has largely disassociated itself with the local football club in favour of spending its money in the pubs, discount clothes rails and cheapy holiday deals to the Costas. I cannot accept any argument that states £320 for adults and £50 for kids for a season ticket is too expensive to watch Championship football. Our best and rightly ambitious players, Brian included, will eventually be the subject of an offer from a club with more than 8,000 loyal supporters and they will be gone. FACT.
Compared to the rest of the division we are cheap to watch. No-one can moan at our prices for watching a mid table championship team and the special offers that they do are good, many other teams dont do them. We have to keep our prices like that to compete with other teams in this division. Like someone once posted on here, people soon found the money during the Premiership season. If people dont like the admission price a one off fee called a season ticket isn't that bad a price and works out a lot cheaper than paying the £21 each match day.
Doncaster Rovers have followed the route suggested on here absolutely bombared the locals via every conceivable channel, begging them to support their club and all in vain. People on here are living in cloud cuckoo land if they think a few adverts in the Chronicle, Wakefield Post and the biased BBC radio station that has tried its damndest to shaft us will bring people back. Shut the Primark and Thomas Cook and we might get somewhere.
You might be onto something Close all the shops in town on a Saturday afternoon, don't allow anywhere to be open and that way there'll be nothing else for people to do but go to Oakwell!
Spot on like my post below People are wanting too much, some tickets at Donny are over £20 to watch League One football. We cant reduce the prices anymore we are one of the cheapest in the division what more do people want? They moaned when we were struggling, "i'm not paying to watch a struggling championship side" now were doing well they're still moaning. The majority in Barnsley would rather put £20 on a horse than £20 to go watch their local team.
two games for £15 a piece? Was there? I didnt see it advertised anywhere. It's a shame that, i'd have gone if the club had advertised it. I'm pretty sure that you get where i'm coming from with this, even if you choose to ignore it everytime you make the same point.
Its an idea free tickets to members of the BNP and Socialist Worker. that should add a few hundred to the gate, and sit them together in the West Stand Empty. free half time entertainment for us in the East Stand.
I know but they're sh|te and its different with them... Personally i'm sick of seeing Rovers adverts around town but when they went to the conference they lost their catchment area all the young kids started supporting Leeds/pigs etc so now they're are trying to attract the new youngsters now that they are back in the league and look more appetising to watch, and apparantly they have seats now instead of a mound to watch the game from.
