Talking to him in Escapade Saturday night, he blamed Pat Cryne for him moving saying he was promised new a contract but never got one until Sheff Utd had shown an interest... When I asked him how come he was touted as only being for sale for £10million but leaving for £500K he said "exactly".. (now I know Nudger will say I should have smacked him but who wouldnt leave a job for double salary) To be honest he should have been tied up straight after the Liverpool game but alas thats now history... Seems a decent bloke to be fair...shook his hand and wished him well...
So he made it sound like when Sheffield United came in he didn't have any reason to stay with us anymore. I didn't think much of that white shirt he was wearing ha.
Well he was def in escapade about 12:30...white shirt and white shoes if I remember right too...!!! He made it sound to me as if we had offered a contract after Liverpool he would have stayed but as it was never forthcoming he had made his mind up before the window that he was off...
Ah the old 'It wasn;t my fault, honest guv'. What about the interviews he did after his move? Moving to a bigger club. Premiership ambition. Better players. If those were his motives it wouldnt have mattered had he been on a longer contract, he'd have wanted to move anyway. Is motive was purely financial. Dont let a half pissed up footballer convince you otherwise.
Exactly mate...he'll tell you what you want to hear when he's out in Barnsley so nobody swings for him again.
RE: Exactly mate...he'll tell you what you want to hear when Oh I know he was in Barnsley so would have had his answers well rehearsed...but show me anyone that wouldnt move jobs for more money..
That wasn;t the point though You mentioned that he had said it was Cryne's fault that he left - which is an easy cop out for someone who moved clubs for money. He was offered new terms which Howard and his agent turned down the opportunity to discuss. He made his decision to move from Barnsley taking advantage of the bosman long before he joined Sheff Utd.
RE: That wasn;t the point though The point was that Cryne said he wasnt for sale for less than £10 million....never sat down with him for a new contract...so Howard left in the window... I think he would have left irrespective of a new contract or not at that point in time... As for ambition, your saying he has no right to be ambitious, remember he was 90 minutes away from being a Premiership player, whilst we were two defeats from the 3rd division.. Funny old game innit...
Thats Brians story....ask Cryne if he offered him a contract altogether now "there's only one greedy b*stard"
The official barnsley site stated that no contract offer had been made So why would cryne claim differently now?
I wonder at what point he said that. Did he just knock on Cryne's door one day and say 'by the way paddy I will not enter into any negotiations ever' and then walk off? As of 15th June (much later than a contract should have been offered) cryne did state that he had not even spoke to brian or his agent about any contract or anything. Leave things too late and players walk for peanuts?
RE: really..? Wasn't Cryne quoted as saying 'we were set to make Brian one of the highest paid Barnsley player's ever'? (dunno)
Brian Howard was fecking off regardless his head far too big for his boots after the liverpool game. He wasn't offered a new contract because he still had a year to run on his existing one. As I understand it, when it became apparent he wanted to leave, BFC tried to get him into negotiation but his agent made it clear he was not interested.
Wonder why JCR has been dealt with so differently then He's signed more contracts in the last year than Cryne has
