Absolutely brilliant, couldn't be more proud. Bring on the medal ceremony! Also got everything crossed for Greg Rutherfore in the long jump - that would be an unexpected triumph if he can do it!
No it's JE and she's just won G in the H in L with a great win in a 800m to go with her great performances in the 100MH, SP, LJ, HJ, J and 200M. She really is a fine asset to S if not SY or simply just Y.
Re: He's done it!! Superb night not a dry eye in our house. Superb games up to just. Excellent viewing.
Re: He's done it!! "Superb games up to just. Excellent viewing." ...Unlike the football! Was it me or when compared to our athletes/rowers/cyclists etc our highly paid footballers come out a very poor second best in terms of commitment, desire to improve and succeed, and, in most cases, real talent.
Re: He's done it!! They're not even second best. To compare todays obscenely rewarded yet deeply flawed and mediocre professional football players in any way with the GB medal winners we've seen so far would be an insult to our Olympians. Given the number of excellent role models we're creating at these games we should hopefully be able to inspire generations of kids to take up sport without the need to put such fine upstanding individuals as John Terry and Wayne Rooney on the front of cereal boxes again.
Re: He's done it!! Agree 100%. I am very disillusioned with upper echelons of football. Being an old git I remember paying 2/- old money to get into Oakwell when the likes of Eric Winstanley/Bob Earnshaw, Spud Murphy, Eric Brookes etc played. It may not have been pretty, the ground was pretty grim but it was blood and guts and 100% effort. Can't see how kids nowadays can afford to get in on their pocket money/paper round earning etc. The level of entertainment isn't much better compared to the price hikes since then, the facilities apart from seating isn't much improved and all I can see is people paying huge amounts of money purely to support footballers wages. How much longer before the wheels fall opff the gravy btrain that is football? Then again people have short memories and a few weeks after the closing ceremony everyone will be talking up the Premiership and the Champoins League and Rooney and terry will be all over the sports pages again. :-(
