According to a poll commissioned by the Sunday Telegraph, 75% of people want a British team, not teams of the individual home nations. People with whom I've discussed this proposal, have 100% not wanted a British team. Any one want a British rather than an English team?
it will never happen whether you wated it or not, but a spin off from your post ... I wonder why the worldcup bid cannot be a BRITISH one instead of just England, the only answer I have had is lame..saying that if Britain had the world cup then we would have to field a GB side. This surely now is ****** seeing as how we are now seeing world cups staged in dual countries recently... we would have a better spread of stadia if we included all the British isles... Hampden and th Millenium spring to mind instantly
I think you can only share the world cup with one other country though and GB is more than one so it isn't allowed unless we count us all as one country and compete as one. It is a bit like the whole of europe tabling one bid for the world cup, they won't allow it because it is too many countries. There's nothing to stop an England and Wales bid or england and scotland though.
only at Olympics as we compete as GB anyway, we are entering 2012 as a one-off but I believe it is looking like just England and N.I. players (so just England let's be honest) at the moment as apparently the Scottish and Welsh are scared of Fifa making this permanent, even though they have assured no such move will be suggested. would be nice though if they did it at Olympics with all nations - although most recent years it would probably have been England plus Giggs
I can't see Scotland, Wales and NI wanting it either... as they would always be complaining that most of their players aren't making the team. At least with the separate countries competing there are more international caps available and more British players get international experience.
couldnt get passionate about watching a GB football match. I dont mind for sports that i dont really give a monkeys bout like athletics.
