Rang 'em today to book me and t'other half on the train to come up to Tarn in a few weeks time. What a performance that was. Firstly, he explains that I can no longer use my first town as part of a super saver ticket and I have to book the journey from there to my transfer station as a seperate journey (WTF! Why?) and then proceeds to tell me that all in all my journey for two people will cost a nice little sum of £206 - once I picked myself up off the floor, I told him I'd rather drive!
RE: £206 Bleeding Australia with the sounds of it. Oh, and that's a Super Saver ticket deal and not first class with gold plated bogs.
Timetabled arrival in Longton 1917. Expected Arrival 1940 23 years late! F*cking hell! Just in time for the war.
That was Virgin Rail and coming via Sheffield. £206 smackers - I'd rather crawl on mi knees than pay that.
Virgin trains are deranged simpletons. Try GNER (seriously). They are a much more efficient outfit regarding ticket sales and prices. However, if the journey utilises a Virgin service then good luck.
Unfortunately, my route has involved Virgin Trains for some years now. The ticket sales man this morning didn't have a clue. Tried telling me that I can't get from here to Barnsley at all!
RE: Timetabled arrival in Longton 1917. Expected Arrival 1940 And that was on the new fast type trains. Poor buggers on the old version are still fighting out the crimean war.
Oh.. they are usually quite good...where does your journey start? Try going to your local station and collaring a conductor..they usually have books that work out fares for themandbest routes oh and pedant alert...British Rail don't exist anymore..Private Enterprise works!!
Are you coming back the same day? If so , I am sure someone once went from Barnsley to somewhere in the southwest by buying daysavers on the day of travel and they saved a lot of money based on buying a single ticket for the journey.
Try breaking it down just use this for an example. local train station - yeovil, yeovil - london, london - birmingham, birmingham - sheffield. it may be cheaper, and look out for like the 14day advanced tickets if possible.
thought I'd posted this once but it's vanished! try on line www.thetrainline.com - shows all available tickets and you can check single ticket prices as well. You can get some good deals and I only ever use them now
RE: Are you coming back the same day? No, I'm staying for a few days. Tried 3 different websites now and they all give the same price. I'm off down to the station in a bit see if I can get a better deal or explanation as to why it's so expensive.
It was 70+ return from Bridgend to Wakey Westgate a cpl of years ago. SO to me 103 quid return each sounds about right , albeit a tad expensive.
Get a super advance to Paddington, then get another one from Kings Cross to Doncaster, then just get a single to Tarn, I used to work for National Rail Enquiries, most calls go to India, and they haven't a clue!
