I have (don't laugh!) dial-up internet access with BT and am looking to upgrade to broadband with the same provider. They currently have an introductory offer where you pay £8.95 for the first 6 months and then £17.99 for the next 12 months of an 18 month contract. I was going to go for this, but then I read the small print and it says "offer applies to new customers only, not upgrades or regrades." Does this mean new broadband customers or new BT customers? TIA.
Give em a call I'm sure you can talk your way into getting their offer, whether you're eligible by default or not. After all, there are plenty of competitors who would want your custom.
Been with BT for years and can highly recommend them. Rarely had a connection problem. Recently upgraded to Total Broadband with the home hub (not bothered fitting it though) and it all came for nothing. Also got a new laptop which has Vista on it and the old modem wasn't compatible. Rang them and they sent me a new modem with a usb and ethernet cable, all for nothing.
RE: Give em a call.... yes indeedy i have tiscali, i saw they had a better offer than the one i was on... which was 1 meg speed and limited 2m download a month for £14:99....I rang em and said I was gonna leave as I had found a better offer... they instantly gave me an upgrade to 8 meg with unlimited downloads for £9:99 so it pays to argue them out...AND THREATEN TO LEAVE IF THEY CANNOT MATCH ANOTHER OFFER.
I'm going to be ringing em up now... I'm paying £17.99 a month for Tiscali's 8Meg unlimited broadband. I wouldn't mind but it's nowhere near that fast. The other day it was tested at 78kbps! I realise the full ~8000kbps is unrealistic but 78!
if they flannel yer then..... ask to be connected to the cancellation department , thats what I did. Then explain what the problem is and tell them you want a better and cheaper deal....that did the trick for me.They had the new service up and running inside 24 hours( could be up to 5 workdays) I tested it and was gett 6meg remember you may not get the full * meg depending on your distance from exchange and type of cables in your area try using the "ZDnet broadband test" its a good speed test
RE: Good point. They used to be bad but have improved alot over last couple of years. I never have a problem anymore.
I sent an e-mail earlier today and to be fair to them they replied within the hour ... ... as a new broadband customer, I am eligible to take advantage of the special introductory offer - yipeeeee! Thanks for all your replies.
if you have managed on dialup id give 3s PAYG broadband a go - £10ppm and no install needed - its wireless. Just plug it into your pc and off yer go - so you can take it with you wherever you go. Will use 3g so you will need 3g coverage.
He is only getting 78, cos he lives so far away from anywhere that matters Barrow in Furness is as far away from civilization as there is in the UK ff ff
