He may have made mistakes, all prime ministers do.
But you don't kill the goose that lays the golden egg.
There are hundreds of thousands of Blair supporters out there, hence the 3 general election victories. How do they feel right now?

Blair said he would serve a full third term so why all the posturing and the media speculation? They should have left it at that and let them get on with the job. It's about time we stopped PM's being ousted mid-term and stop governments being able to cut and run for an election when it suits.
They are elected for 5 years so let it be 5 years, stop the speculation in the last 18 months of a government and you know when the election is and the media can stop speculating. If the PM is resigning at the end of that, or his/her party want to oust them then they can have a leadership election a few months before the General Election.

As for Brown, who does he think he his? He's assuming that he just takes over, I think there's a few others that might want to put their names forward as well.

In my view, for what it's worth, I do not think Brown should be Prime Minister as he represents a Scottish constituency. Scotland has its own parliament which determines 50% or so of its laws, and he would be ruling over solely English domestic issues at Westminster. The whole mess that Blair & Co. got us into constitutionally by giving Scotland its own Parliament, shortly to be followed by Wales, is going to open a big can of worms very shortly. Blair and his fellow Scots in government, unfortuately ignored the wise words of Tam Dalzeil.

At the moment, Westminster is still THE UK Parliament, and as such has final say over many new laws. Scotland has had it's own laws for hundreds of years, much pre-dating the establishment of the current Scottish Parliament.

If we are to continue on this course of devolution, then the Regional Assemby idea needs to be resurected, because by your logic, why should someone in a constituency down south make decisions that affect the north?

    RE: What a sickening thought.

    What a federal Europe?

It is going to happen, which is way way beyond they original idea of the European coal and steel confederation from which all of this started in the 50's

At that time it was designed to tie up the German and French coal and steel industries to prevent them from going to war with each other every 20 years, to that extent it worked.

However, a federal Europe, for me, no thanks. But I feel the same way about devolution in the UK too.
