Great to see a former player in the stands with the fans yesterday. Even had a chant of Bruce, Bruce Dyer at half time.
upset a few here... he was one of the most overrated players we have ever had, very lazy and should have scored twice as many as he did
Top bloke, my mate went up to him and ....... ...... asked him why he was there, he said he had the choice of going in either end but wanted to be with the Barnsley fans. Mate said to him, "nice one Bruce, just one more question though, how many times were you caught offside when you played for us?" ........ Bruce smiles, thinks about it then says ..... "at least once!!"
Just been chatting with him about Barnsley FC matters at Brooklands Hotel and it seems theres a chance Steele may still sign a new contract although has not done as yet.
RE: Impressive "bump" nt Yea, I was quite surprised by that. Looked at the BBS for the first time in a while and saw one of my threads at the top of the page.
brum away in playoffs spring to mind everytime i think of him what a day that was. trounced em - bruce was on fire.
RE: brum away in playoffs spring to mind everytime i think of him I remember it well. I was skipping through Cleethorpes at the time listening to it on the radio. Why the hell I was in Cleethorpes not Brum, I'm not sure. Tony.
I always say "Thank you, Martin O'Connor" when I think of the Brum match First all he kicked Robin Van Der Laan so hard in the first minute that he could not continue. VDL's role would have been defensive midfielder. This meant that Geoff Thomas came on in the same holding role, but O'Connor also kicked him and he went off injured. By this time, Neil Shipperley had snaffled our only chance with a quality, precision strike from the edge of the area. Having no more defensive midfielders, there was no option other than to bring on Bruce Dyer and it meant the team had a much more attacking structure than the 5-4-1 with which we started, with Hignett pushing up alongside Shipperley on the counter-attack. O'Connor had ensured this change took place and the attacking Reds team duly tore the Blues apart with three further goals, two from Dyer. O'Connor was taught a lesson that day - maybe Bassett was as well!!!!
i remember that day. me and mate pised in back yard dancing on coal shead. then fell off the f@@ker. but great day anyway.good old days
never mind vdl hadn't bassett's game plan been cocked up even before we kicked off? That was a great match
cleethorpes was the best place after the game 1st and last time ive ever been scared trying to get away from a football game.
