a pair of red underpants with 'IT' on them - to emphasise how 'superhuman' their IT bods are.

This country is f-cked.

Send them back and tell them as a valued customer you expect them to send womens underwear and then you'll consider upgrading, if they send a picture of the IT bod that wore them.
On a similar theme A number of years ago, someone once sent me a lime green and navy blue t-shirt type thing with 'Big Thing' on it. wtf?
I have received the same 'gift' ... wtf !!!!!
Another example of why the country is fooked !!!
What a waste of money !!!

Brand building There will be a group of marketing types sat in an office somewhere stroking their chin as I type this congratulating themselves at how clever that was

RE: Brand building you mean the type who are good at spending other people's money ?
Anyone who is in that position should be made to run their own small business for a year... see if they still think red fecking underpants are a wheeze !!!!

bitter experience the amount of times I've sat in meetings and listened to senior people come up with this tripe
I'd love to attach them to a lie detector tothe agancies that sell these ideas inand find out whether they were truely stupid or just lining their pockets by screwing bug corporates with more money than sense

personal experience A good friend of mine works in the marketing dept of a large council, he recently worked with a marketing company on some publicity for an event they were planning. A few weeks later a new ipod and speaker system turned up at his house with a 'think of us again next time' type message attached.
We all know You'll take 'em back to chez Hartog tonight and pose for your lass pretending to be a super hero. You make me sick.
Why should we care? If their IT bods are that good then their work should never come to our attention. Everything should just be seamlessly delivered and work according to the marketing blurb, ditto the billing systems, etc. The fact that "normal" people have to know how loads of technical stuff works is a massive failing of the IT industry and all the underpants in the world aren't going to fix that.
