If Alex Ferguson came out of retirement and took up the reigns at Barnsley FC I would imagine the attendances would increase. Same for José Mourinho if he quit Chelsea and came here. Maybe there are a few others who could do the same: Arsene Wenger possibly, Pep Guardiola, maybe Jurgen Klinsmann, David Beckham. But even then, it would only be until the novelty wore off. People don't watch a football team for the manager on the bench (with the possible exception of David Beckham who could increase the female attendees in the West Stand). No one mentioned in relation to the Barnsley job, no one who would remotely consider coming here, will increase our attendances more than a handful. There isn't such a thing as a bums on seats manager at this level, or any level really. Our attendances will improve if the results improve, we start playing good football a lot more consistently and we look like getting promoted. That will happen whether it is Fred Blogs in charge or the most high profile manager we could possibly attract. Talk of bringing in a manager to increase attendances is nonsense. We bring in a manager to improve results and then attendances take care of themselves.
