Following Cunning Stunt's advice my mate (who I can now disclose is a Yeovil supporter) and I headed first to the Courthouse for something to eat. The menu didn't look too promising compared to how I remembered it from when I was last in a few years back but I had a pint of Guinness and a cracking all-day breakfast (served until 1pm) and neither Extremely Northern nor anyone else had pissed on my chips. So far so good. Next on to Chennels which was heaving and loud, as I remembered it, so after a quick drink off we went in search of Old No 7. A helpful policeman pointed us in the right direction and despite MrsHallsToffeerolls's disparaging comments I knew as soon as we walked in this was home. I really like this pub. It was my mate's round and when he came back with a very nice pint of Barnsley Bitter and a soft drink for me (driving) for a total of £2.50 he declared he really liked it too. Then on to the match. My mate was quite impressed with Oakwell and the facilities in the East Stand and we took our seats in the East Upper near the half way line. I'm not going to go into detail on the match because there are far better informed analysts on here than me but a few observations having not read the board yet: The game was very open, particularly in the second half and even towards the end of the first when Yeovil stopped closing us down so much. Their goal would have been funny if it wasn't so tragic, a disaster in slow-motion like one of those "Yes! No! Sorry!" run out moments in cricket. Our goal was a well-taken penalty that should never have been - there may have been a hand in Cywka's back just prior to him going down but from where we were sat it didn't look in any way to have actually caused it. He seemed to just lift his legs up and fall to the ground. I hope it looks less embarrassing when I see the replay. I was disappointed to see McCourt go off but I'm a fan of JOB's spirited endeavour and enjoyed watching him anyway. Cywka has a good game considering he started and I thought Wiseman looked a different player from when I saw him last in person. I find it staggering that there were no goals in the second half. At one point neither side seemed capable of putting 2 passes together without handing the ball to the opposition in a dangerous position, only for them to give it back in an equally dangerous one, and so on. But somehow that was how it ended up and if a point apiece didn't really do either team any big favours it still closed the gap on Charlton and made for a more convivial atmosphere in the van on the way back down the M1. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable day out which was just lacking that crucial finishing touch from any one of our players who had several good chances to make it complete.
What disparaging comments are those then Burgmeister? It must have been you I pointed in the reight direction today then.
Oh, I interpreted this: . . . as meaning that I was just being polite about intending to visit the place. Only in a tongue-in-cheek way, of course. Are you a copper then?
Interesting on the price of a pint and a soft drink - wonder if they are doing free soft drinks on some occasions as I think that would be about the price of the pint if you don't have a loyalty card
Good stuff. As you say a little bit better in front of goal and we would win. Seen their goal a couple of times back. Not sure what's happened.
I did wonder about that. It was only a mixer fizzy water so it was probably free. Still, £2.50 for a decent pint of bitter compared favourably with the £3.90 I paid for a Guinness when I got back.
