MIDFIELDER Jacob Burns left Oakwell for the last time today as he prepared to sign for Polish champions Wisla Krakow.

Speaking exclusively to www.barnsleyfc.co.uk, Jacob said: "On one hand I am a little upset, sad and emotional to be leaving a great club. I am leaving behind some good friends at a time when we are doing really well and pushing for promotion.

"It is really hard to leave when we are at the top end of the table but it is a great opportunity for me to move forward in my career. It gives me a chance of making the Australian squad for the World Cup this year as well as playing Champions League football. I definitely have very mixed emotions and it has not been a decision I have taken lightly.

"I did not want to regret not giving myself the opportunity in later life. This does not guarantee anything but at least I have put myself in the frame for Germany and I will have done everything I can to make that squad. We will have to wait and see.

"I have been very happy here at Barnsley Football Club. Hopefully the supporters have enjoyed having me here and I have loved every minute. I wanted to be a credit to this club and hopefully I have done that.

"I now want the rest of the lads to achieve great things and get Barnsley Football Club back into the Championship. The supporters deserve that and I am sure that this squad can do it".

    Nice comments

I'm sad to see him leave, and we all doubted why he would want to go play in Poland, but if he does have an outside chance of the World Cup it will only be enhanced by him going there.

And like he says, he has the opportunity of one Champions League qualifier game next season, so you can't begrudge him that.

Good luck rather you than me Jacob.

    Sorry

I almost said "...a chance at sitting on the bench in one champions league qualifier"

But I thought that would sound bitter. I am not, but I still wish he'd have seen through the season and then made a decison. Surely if anyone half decent was after him in close season he could get a good wage, what with him being out of contract.

    Hey Ho

    Good luck Jacob, genuinely.
