BARNSLEY FC can confirm that the Club are currently finalising a deal which will see midfielder Jacob Burns join Polish champions Wisla Krakow.

Jacob joined the Reds in October 2003 and has made 103 first team appearances, netting six goals. He has been a regular this season, clocking up 40 games for Andy Ritchie's promotion-chasers.

The Australian international arrived in English football in the summer of 2000 when he moved from Paramatta Power to Leeds United. He made ten first team appearances for Leeds, including playing in Champions League ties against Besiktas, Real Madrid and Lazio. Jacob left Leeds in the summer of 2003 and linked up with the Reds a couple of months later.

A popular figure at Oakwell, the 27-year-old has aspirations of adding to his tally of two international caps by forcing his way into the Australian squad for this summer's World Cup Finals in Germany.

Jacob initially went to train with Wisla Krakow last week and the Polish side, who were knocked out of the Champions League at the Second Qualifying Round stage this season, have made an acceptable financial offer for the midfielder in the last few days.

He has not travelled to Bournemouth for tonight's important Coca Cola League One clash at the Fitness First Stadium and is expected to complete the formalities of his switch to Poland before the weekend.

Jacob is expected to sign a two-and-a-half year deal with Wisla Krakow after discussions between all parties.

Barnsley Football Club would like to thank Jacob for his excellent service over the last two years and wish him every success in the future. All at Oakwell hope Jacob achieves his dream of playing in this summer's World Cup Finals in Germany.
