deserves to keep his place. Played quite well on Saturday. He gave the ball away occasionaly but was not afraid to put his foot on the ball and have a look nor to put his foot in. Let Colace fight for his place back and seeing as Butterfield has scored more goals in a Red Shirt in one appearance than Colace, long may the head-banded no tackling one be out of the frame.
For me Colace is going to be fighting for his place with Anderson, both defensive midfielders. Butterfield deserves to keep his place.
Possibly so... I just hope Davey keeps faith with Butterfield. I'm sure he'll have both worse and better games but will only develop if he is given the chance in the first team. He's been on the fringes long enough now.
RE: Possibly so... I agree. Butterfield has the potential to become a very good player but he needs to get games. I think Davey will do the right thing with Jacob to make sure he does develop as a player but at the same time protecting him when needed.
Well he definetely warrants his place for Tuesday night. Possibly even Saturday with the new faces a la Hammill, Halfredsson, Thompson and possibly Gray. He's got the shirt now and i'd like to see how he reacts knowing he'll face some serious competition for it, can only be a good move in my opinion as he'll up his game.
Correct... what he does not deserve, IMHO, is dropping because Colace is fit. It probably would be between Anderson and Colace but Butterfield will more than likely get the chop.
RE: Correct... Definetely, if Colace is fit then Butterfield will be seen as the one to drop out. Anderson played pretty well on Sat too, especially in the 1st half - was our best player by a country mile, having a run at defenders and taking them on. Trying to create opportunities for others. I'd stick with them 2 for the time being, none of the pair haven't done much wrong. Stick with them until injuries/suspensions/lack of form intefer's into things.
I thought he was below average in the first half, stood off them far too much and didn't get stuck in. Second half he was much better, no need to drop him or Anderson after their second half performances.
His problem is He scored in one of his first games ... if he doesn't do that every week now, the mob will be after him. It always the same with home grown kids
Didn't Davey say that if a player was in the team and playing well he wouldn't drop them in favour of someone else? If that's the case, and Butterfield did have a good game at Weds, then he should keep his place. PAOLO
I hope he keeps his place tomorrow at least... see how he gets on again against what should be a weaker opposition. See if he can dominate in there like Colace would.
I'd rotate Colace/Butterfield depending on opposition. Hopefully, we'll be doing our research on upcoming teams.

Needs to be brought on slowly Maybe start tomorrow then back to the bench for a bit. He's still not the finished article and picking him week in / week out is not the correct way to develop him IMHO. He should be aiming for a regular start next term. If Halfredsson signs I expect him, Hammill, JCR, Colace and ADS to be the main midfield protagonists.
Too much midfield competition for Butterfield to get a regular shirt. At least we know he can come in, do a job and is progressing the right way though.
