Bet there's not a team in the league that wouldn't want player like that in their side. Not saying he had his best game, but he unlocks things for us. Said to friends last year that we should build a team around him, and fair play to Hill, that's what he's done. I thought making him captain was a very odd choice, but again, Hill has come up trumps. it seems to have brought him on further. One more Keith ... Get him signed on to a longer contract.. we need him in the team.
Thrives playing off a front man, a bit of a waste played out wide or deep in a four. The 4-2-3-1 suits him IMO
over rated...decent player but that's it......best (bar Steele) of an individually moderate lot..... TEAM is improving however so all's well.
He is becoming a very good player and starting to achieve the potential many of us have seen for a while now. I'm just very concerned he is almost down to the last six months of his contract and we dont appear to be doing too much to ensure he stays with us for a few more years. Come on BFC don't let another player slip away for peanutes.

I thought making him captain was a very odd choice, but again, Hill has come up trumps. it seems to have brought him on further. Butterfield used to have a problem drifting in and out of games....but making him captain looks to have cured that, for the benefit of all...Butters, the team, and the fans, he's now...I think the term is "all action"..hehe As for new contract it will be down to the player if he wants to stop..or not....it would be a great signing for Hill..and the reds...because if he keeps performing like he is...and why shouldn't he....they'll be a hell of a lot of club sniffing round with big money that he'll find it near on impossible to turn down...
I cannot see how we can keep him at Oakwell. If we put are mortgage on him to stay, there’s always someone willing to offer better terms with him. I would love him to sign another contract, but cannot see it happening.:frown:
I tend to think that Hill can persuade him and get him to sign an extension to his contract. We have looked after him, he seems to be settled and he is playing the best football of his career under Hill. If we can't convince him to stay then that's fine but we have to at least try.
I think you are right and come January this board will be full of rants...however Mr Hill is no mug and maybe he can convince Butterfield to stay at least till the end of the season and maybe even one more.Jacob is a not yet the finished article and as such he might get a totally much better club than the dross thats been touted at looking at him just now.If he continues to flourish with us for this and maybe next term then maybe some of the bigger fish may like the look .We may benefit more and he certainly would too.
I agree with you Dragon In Butterfield's case I think less is more at the moment. If he waits a while and continues to do a good job for us he could go much higher in a year or two and make his mark, rather than sinking without trace in some other lesser clubs and ending up on the lower tier circuit, like others have done.
Re: I agree with you Dragon I've seen every league game he as played for Barnsley, and from that i would say one thing "he needs to stay with us", i know this day and age its all about money and money driven agents driving players from one club to another for the biggest pay packet. but having seen Jago for the past 4 years or so i feel he needs to stay with us or a club not much better then us to improve week on week, i also think he'll know this due to the past 4 years, now its up to him to decide what he wants dose he want to try and be the best footballer he can be, and be on top top money in a few years time, or dose he want very good money now, as a footballer his as spent the best part of is time at Barnsley as a bit part player, very talented but not fulfilling potential and a bit of a pain to watch, because just watching him you can see he's a lot better then what he's been doing. and i think the lad himself as been frustrated with himself for not performing well enough to pin down a starting place, but now under Benny Hill he is starting to blossom and i think he'll realise that this his all down to playing first team football and the coaching he is now getting and with the arm band and the wage rise he will be offered he knows that he'll play when ever he's fit to. he may find himself in the same place he's been for the past few years if he moves to a bigger club a bit part player struggling to pin down a starting place, if he improves at Barnsley over the next 2 years as much as he as in the last 4 months he'll be able to walk into a top championship club and demand a starting place week in week out but at the moment it would be a step backwards in his career
Shock Horror! At first I thought he'd been sacked when I read your post! Superb player who can get even better. Enjoying watching him at the moment.
