It depends on the game. My dad used to buy the playstation magazine which had a disc with game demos on it, he used to sit with me while we played the demos so he could judge whether the game was suitable for me before buying the full game. That being said, I was only ever interested in football and racing games. My brother played more shooting games and has done since he was about 14. He's never considered murdering a prostitute or anything though. Or at least I don't think so.

I used to play gta and the likes when they first came out, as well as the likes of mortal kombat where you could rip your opponents head off. I didn't think anything of it at the time. But as I get older and have a child due soon it's a tricky question. I see games that look so so real. I'm 32 and out of touch.

I think really young kids playing the violent games is clearly wrong. It honestly emerges the player so far into the story I can see how some kids who's brains are in such a developing stage in early teens can be warped between reality and game.

all computer games should be played in moderation though. Hearing kids play some games every day for 18 hours at a time is neglect if as a parent you allow that. It's just a modern form of neglect. Kids do need protecting. Quite often from themselves and the addictions and dangers that online and emersive video games can create.

seriously Marc could you expand on that remark... a full stop?

over 18 video games, Adult films, or whatever are labelled for that end... so I really believe its bad parenting that if you let under age/ minors access then ye you are a bad parent. I do however realise that the "kids" can and will get around this by various means, but as a parent all attempts to shield from this should be taken. The number of times you can walk around any City, Town Mall, supermarket .. and see girls no older than Tots dressed like Beyoncé, Aguilera, Maddona.... and little lads dressed like the cast of TOWIE or whatever.. its sickening. I todays world the word 'Childhood' has been deleted.

i personally think 'why would you'. but there are probably far worse things that people do, which no one even blinks at.

we got proper scowled at other week, cos we wouldn't feed chocolate to our 10 month old little boy at an easter party. room of parents force feeding chocolate to babies - and we were the ones being frowned upon, because he had blueberries instead of chocolate. weird..

not only can they be violent and rip apart players

there is also the problem of many online games especially the MMORPG genre ... that allows the nastiness of 'CyberSex'.

Playing violent videogames isn't going to warp your kids in isolation. I played violent video games, GTA2 came out when I was 12. My parents also instilled values and the importance of being a decent human being. I can see how it might warp some of the little feral shits who don't have those values.

    thing is though fella

a lot of these games have a system that's called PvP

Player versus player... which is basically having a fight with another human albeit online... they mostly do this in whats called Clans... therefore encouraging Gangs

Definitely not right. As I've said before, there's a lad in year 2 who wrote in his story about beating up prostitutes and having sex with them.

Just recently purchased xbox one with gta v. My son wants to play on it but after playing myself and going to a strip club and also playing a mission where you have to get a video of a film star being taken up the 4rse and the level of swearing in it. He's been told it's a definite nono, 18 for a reason

Depends on the game. COD and shooting games I see absolutely nothing wrong with because in essence it is just little boys playing with toy guns. The difference is its on a computer not in the back garden. You can argue that they are more realistic now but let's be honest, they're not. Controlling a man with a gun on a TV screen who dies and comes back to life instantly is not realistic at all. Its fantasy and in my opinion and experience causes no harm whatsoever to the player.

Games like GTA on the other hand definitely aren't for kids. The language isn't acceptable and the sex scenes and strip clubs aren't right for kids. To be honest I don't understand the appeal of that for adults either.
