Can anyone explain why you get booked for taking your shirt off when you score?

Didn't we have this thread last week?!

    1. Timewasting
    2. It comes under excessive celebrations
    3. Could be deemed to incite violence
    4. Unsporting conduct

More pertinent - Why do players take their shirts off when they know it's a bookable offence.....are they just hard of thinking?

Are you a copper? Or a ref? Have you ever given a "citizens arrest"?

I think getting booked for taking your shirt of is a ridiculous rule. From the points above, I don't see it as timewasting at all (unless you throw your shirt, and leave it behind, like the one on MotD did tonight). Excessive celebrations, yeah fair enough, but where's the harm? Going into the crowd, then fair do's. Incite violence? I can honestly say i've never felt like hitting an opposing fan, or the goalscorer simply because he took his shirt off. I think usporting conduct would be covered by your point 2.

I do agree though when you ask why they still do it when they know they'll get booked. Must be really daft buggers.

    Should you not be asking....

Why do certain players blatently break the rules to earn a yellow card. Not rocket science really. Why do you pay tax???? Cause it is the rules.

    Franck Ribery's booking for...

taking his shirt off to reveal a message expressing his best wishes to the French commentator who'd just passed away was ridiculous.

Aren't you supposed to have your shirt tucked in?

That never seems to be enforced at all.

You may think it is a stupid rule, I couldn't possibly comment...

however given that the rule is in place it is tthe offending players who are stupid, not the rule; they know they will get a yellow card if they remove the shirt, so why do it?

One of Sepp Bladders daft rule's in't it?</p>

Like the proposed 3 yellow cards and woman footballers to wear skimpy tops to liven up the game. Although that last one is the only sensible suggestion he's ever put forward.

    That's not my point

I want to know WHY it is considered an offence warranting the same action as the majority of scything cynical challenges.

Does it B*ll*cks time waste in the majority of cases, is it heck unsporting.

    It's a celebration.

    Let's make everyone into robots.

    Wasting time?

Now That's wasting time when the referee has to book him.
But Rules are Rules so players can't really complain
