Budget can stretch to a few hundred quid - whatever's necessary to get something powerful that'll last a few years. Will be mainly used for internet, word processing but occasionally for gaming. I also want to be able to store plenty of music and photos on it without it slowing down to a crawling pace! What's a good spec these days in terms of RAM, speed, hard drive space etc? Thought about a Mac but probably going to stick with Windows this time. Trying to get an idea what to get and hopefully find something in the January sales then. Cheers.
no use talking to me. i think any laptop with windows on it is $hit. i'd seriously rather pay £250 for a 4 yr old macbook, than buy a new piece of plastic windows junk from currys
Fair dos! I've had my current Windows laptop for nearly 5 years and it's done me well but finally getting too slow for modern demand. Anyone else? Got lots of advice when I bought the current one. Cheers.
Don't get a Lenovo and don't buy from Currys. I've had nothing but problems with mine and it's been back to Currys FIVE times. On each occasion they've refused to consider a refund/replacement and have sent it away for repair, leaving me without it for a week. Quite disruptive for someone who is self employed.
Black Friday/Cyber Monday is coming up so you might be able to get a decent deal sooner than January. You're probably going to need to be a bit more realistic with your expectations though. You can generally pick two from cheap, good, and reliable. In short, Intel processors are the better option, around 2.5ghz is enough for decent performance. 1TB of memory is standard, as is 4-8GB of RAM. Laptops will never be great for gaming, especially budget laptops where you're never going to get a quality graphics card. You can disregard this if you absolutely must get a laptop - ie it must be portable for work, but this desktop will smash anything you're going to get. Granted it doesn't include monitor, mouse or keyboard but for £400 you're much better off. https://www.overclockers.co.uk/ocuk...70k-quad-core-online-gaming-pc-fs-118-og.html
If your think of accessing the Barnsley FC official web page at any time , you will need to spend around 600-800 quid on 12gb of ram, an I7 processor and top gaming graphics card, others wise a standard laptop should be fine
have a word with these guys in Huddersfield 'JournoTyke' http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/ they have some great deals on normally
Re: have a word with these guys in Huddersfield 'JournoTyke' Thanks guys, will have a look on there Dragon. After a laptop rather than desktop for ease of transporting around etc. Only game I'll play if anything is a bit of Football Manager which is designed for laptops. Generally not had a problem on laptops with that, even my 5 year old one just about plays FM16.
