I am planning a short break there soon and would appreciate any advice from fellow BBS-ers who've already been. TIA.
When are you going I will be there for a long weekend in Early June and have a hotel booked but not stayed there yet so cant actually recommend it
Hotel Raffaello if you can get a decent rate on it. Via Urbana near top of Via Cavour just 5 mins from train station. Quiet little street but lots of life nearby. 10 mins walk to Colosseum and Forum. Also a couple of Metro stops near enough so you can get across to Spanish Steps, Vatican etc.. Can give you some good eating places too. Above everything though, make sure you go to the Villa Borghese (my favourite place on the planet!!). Easy to book that on the internet in advance.
Hotel Caracciolo http://www.hotelcaracciolo.com/en/index.htm The Company the Mrs is doing some work for booked it for her as she needs to be there for a few days but we dont know anything about it other than what is on the website
Nicolas Inn.. Trip advisor No. 4 rated out of 575 B&B's in Rome.. It's excellent, the owner is an American woman called Melissa who married an Italian bloke - they're really helpful.. They arranged our taxi to and from the airport, we got breakfast in bed every morning, and they told us all the best restaurants, little hidden family run places where we had 5 course meals with 2 bottles of wine for only 60euro's a couple! It's on via cavour, (on the doorstep of the Forum and Colosseum and within easy walking distance of nearly all the major sites).
Thanks to everyone for your suggestions - some of those hotels really sound the business, but I've opted for a B&B close to Termini Station which is highly-rated on Trip Advisor and seems perfect for our needs. Thanks again.</p>
