Can't beat the good old Canon EOS 1 DS Mark 3.

Really depends what you want to pay, you can get a Mark 2 second hand for £1.5 - £2K or a D1 (new) for the same sort of money. Build quality is excellent, they are user friendly and give excellent results - for gigs you can bang them up to 3200 ISO meaning that with a decent lens you won't need a flash.

Downside is that they are bloody heavy, if that is an issue the EOS 5D might be a better option.

You are a bit if you're after new, pap quality, and a decent lens.
Canon 40D with a good lens (say a standard 50mm) will cost you about a grand but it won't be as tough as a pro model.

RE:I go along with FBC looks like 2nd hand, but

I would look for a dealer rather than ebay, some pro stuff has really been through the ringer, but you do need something that will stand up to the bashing about they will get

RE:I go along with FBC looks like 2nd hand, but

It sholudn't get too much of a bashing as it's mostly for gigs that my lot will be running, i need photos that will be of a decent enough standard for print, can't buy through eBay thogh, i'll have a look at the specs for what's been mentioned...cheers for the advice both.

The new Sony ALpha range is amazing with a real extra bonus.

They take the Minolta fitting lenses, as Sony bought out Konica Monolta. These lenses are cheap in comparison for REAL glass made to last and built to last. I havn't used the Sony Lens as i bought 4 Minolta lenses on Ebay for not a lot and the colours are amazing in comparison.

    Canon 1D Mark 2 second hand for around £600 - £800

This is what I'd go for. 8.5fps and 8 Mp. Fine for what you described. When you get fed up and sell it you'll not lose too much either.

There are plenty on eBay in various conditions so I'd take a photog with you if you're unsure.
