I couldn't go yesterday. I've read all the national and local reports so have a rough idea and consequently don't want a pessimistic "Davey-out" view, but a balanced report.

    Cheers for any help

Played crap in first half....mainly because we were playing long ball stuff with Macken and Hume up front.

Second was ok, took Hume off and put Odejayi on and we improved. Colace did well to bring the ball down and string a few passes together.

Unfortunatley the inability to score lost us the game as Blackpool had that cutting edge.

Thier were claims for a pen but it evened it out abit as Blackpool had clear cut claim turned down a few minutes before.

not sure how balanced this is, and many may disagree but these are my thoughts. If you saw the Derby game then this ran on a similar line. It was end to end first half but very scrappy and very few clear cut chances. The had a free shot from the pen spot which blazed 15 feet over the bar and we had a a break away which resulted in a good save from Macken. At half time on balance the had the more possession ond a few more chances but to be honest it was two poor teams struggling. At half time my thoughts were it could go either way, if they scored first then I did't see us being able to get back into it but if we scored first we could possibly go on to win comfortably.

The introduction of Odejayi made us a stronger looking unit going forward and again although Blackpool had the more chances and more ball we probably had the better opportunity's which we did not always turn into clear cut chances. Having said that we cleared the ball off our line twice and it was not a suprise when they did score. It was a good goal, the TV pictures did not do it justice, we were in a direct line of sight behind the shot and the ball did bend a long way. Game over !

So verdict, 2 poor teams, they probably deserved the points, I would not have been disappointed with a point, they have been strong at Home in recent seasons and a point would not have been the end of the world. Hume looked heavy legged before being withdrawn at half time (possibly part injury, part jeg lag ), Colace got stronger as the game went on, and did simple things quite well. Howard huffed and puffed but I think on the whole he is just going through the motions until he can move on, ( he did have odd spurts of effort but seemed more interested in throwing himself to the ground to win freekicks). Our left winger seems to lack, pace , skill and much idea of what to do, Telae looked a lot stronger when he came on. Foster looked good although gave away a silly free kick picking up a yellow in the process which restricted his effectiveness in the second half. My man of the match was Moore, solid and uncomprimising, I just think we need someone with some pace along side him and that is not Souza.

What does worry me is that if Davey actually believes the rubish he says in his post match comments then we are in big trouble. We are not hammering teams and getting just bad luck every week, but he was right right in that we had another very poor ref, who was def a Homer and depending on your view point between one and four pens. One blatent handball, twice Odejayi was flattened in the are ( once the defender flattened him when he came straight over the top of a header and the following attack the defender got hold of Odejayi's arm and threw him over the goal line)

Should we sack Davey, not sure. Who would we replace him with ? If we are going to push the boat of for someone then maybe, but if as in recent years we are just going to appoint the Academy coach then no. But I do think that for what ever reason Davey is not getting 100% out of these players. Its going to be a long old year and I can not see us getting anything on Tues.

I think it was one of these............. If things stay the same...get ready for some of these

    Match Day Report
    Barnsley v ************

Barnsley totally dominated the first period of the match. Chances came and went and Barnsley on several occasions were unlucky not to take the lead. On 21 minutes the visitors had a break away and scored against the run of play. Barnsley again pressed forward after the break but the defence of ************* stood firm. On the hour several attempts by Barnsley went begging. One attempt roled across the goal mouth and only needed a touch but unfortunatly no Barnsley player was in 10 metres of the ball. The visitors went close twice in the second half but the majority of play again fell to Barnsley.
At the final whistle Simon Davey said his team had given everything but had been unlucky in front of goal

    Final Score
    Barnsley 0 - 1 ****************

For ************* put in any team in the Championship

    Unfortunately not

If we'd have been unlucky in front of goal, I wouldn't be as worried as I am. My main concern is we just don't look like scoring - we don't create hardly any chances. The effort is all there and I thought we defended quite well most of yesterday, but going forward we look clueless. There seems to be a huge gap between midfield and strikers and I'm not sure how that's going to be sorted.

Had Kevin Phillips signed, he wouldn't have had any chances to score.

I first posted this on the 1st August 2008 before the start of the season

If things stay the same, get ready for some of these...........was first posted on the 1st August

I still think the work ethic is there but we just haven't got anyone with that bit of intelligence or guile or what ever you want to call it that results in goals............all this huffing and puffing will get us no where

Wasn't so bothered we lost against Birmingham, Coventry and QPR
But we should be beating teams like Blackpool...........so I'm concerned
