<p class="big">Southend United insist there are no plans to try and sign Watford veteran Chris Powell on loan.</p> Steve Hammell is likely to be out for several weeks with a groin injury and the Championship strugglers are keen to bring in a replacement left-back.</p> Powell, who played for Southend earlier in his career, had been linked with a return to Roots Hall to solve the club's dilemma.</p> But Shrimpers assistant manager Paul Brush admits there is no prospect of the former England international joining the club on loan.</p> "There is no chance of Chris coming back here at this stage," Brush told the Essex Echo.</p> "He is not available, so we will have to look elsewhere, but we have a list of targets to look at when the loan transfer window reopens this week."</p> Powell made nearly 300 appearances for Southend before leaving for Derby County in an £800,000 deal 11 years ago.</p> He linked up with Watford on a free transfer from Charlton Athletic last summer, but has started just five Premiership games this season.</p> </p> If So Get Him Signed, He's Experienced Enough</p>
