For Oakwell to have a capacity of 30,000 we have to build a stand on the old west stand with a capacity of 10,000. This is not going to happen. A 10k capacity stand a) wouldn't fit in the space the club has at its disposal and b) Would cost approximately £10-15m which is money we haven't got.

It'd have to be even bigger wouldn't it?

Ponty end - 4,500 approx
East Stand - 7,500 approx
North Stand - 6,000 approx

The Welcome stand and other bits and pieces take it up to about 18,500, so to achieve a 30,000 stadium we'd have to look at building an 11,500 stand! That's some bloody size.

I don't believe a new West Stand is on the agenda at all at the moment.

If the capacity for the East Stand is

Approximately 8500 and IF the potential new West Stand was built from the Ponty End to the North Stand , wouldn't that have a capacity of 10 000 + , as it'd be taking up more room ? Especially if the stand was two tier ?
It seems ages since I had an argument with you !!:pff

The current capacity is around 23,000 Jay, not 18,500.

Cheese segments

You make it up to 30 by filling up the cheesy shaped segments in the corners.

That'll do it.

He didn't include the West Stand because obviously that would have to be knocked down to accomodate a new West stand!

I must have missed something

cos I've not read anywhere in what Gordon Shepherd has said that his intention is to INCREASE the ground capacity. is there a possibility he might be thinking along the lines of same size or smaller but with better catering, boxes, etc?

But that includes the West Stand as it is now. I think that would have to be knocked down first.

And I haven't read anywhere about a new stand at all

All that has been muted are 'ground improvements'.

That obviously encompasses everything from a lick of paint to an entirely new stadium, but I do think people are getting very carried away with it all and setting themselves up for disappointment.

Obviously, yes

When we only had the upper tier of the old stand, the amount of seats at Oakwell was documented as 2,200 I believe. Given that the lower tier is much larger I think it's safe to assume it holds 2,800 to make a total of 5,000.

Guess it'd only happen if:

a) We got a large sponsorship deal or
b) A certain director of the club wants a new stand!

I agree

In my limited experience, the whole planning to build complete process can take a lifetime. agreeing the contents of planning permission and finding a buyer might take several years. not to mention any restrictive covenants that might come to light. lets not get carried away. priority is getting Deano on board.

exactly

The extent of the ground improvement depends on:
a) How much they make from the sale of the land
b) How much of that revenue Cryne decides to plough back into the black hole that is BFC.

All we can do is speculate on both of those factors.
Surely the West Stand pissers are due for some attention.
