For a long time I've believed that Davey just doesn't know what to do with strikers. We've had good strikers come and go who were plenty good enough at this level - there just doesn't seem to be any coordination up front. No plan. They all have looked a bit aimless and off the pace - I don't think that it's because they're all rubbish, I think it's because Davey doesn't know how to coordinate his attackers.
No they weren`t mate have a check only Mostto scored many goals before he joined us. Hume scored 11 last season so that was an improvement on owt of ours.
agreed Ferenczi is a great example. He was scoring for fun when he had a decent partner to play alongside, then he was stuck up front with people who didnt know how to play with him and never got a sniff at goal.
that,s what i can,t get my head around, please tell me someone why whichever striker we sign they can,t score goals regulary,it,s got to be the manager and which case he should go,is there some sort of curse been placed on the club,it makes you wonder!
I'll tell you Odejayi scored lots of goals with his head from close range before signing for us yet under Davey he is played deep as the man to flick the ball on or the ball is put to his feet in the box. Look at the chelsea game, close range header at the back post, 1-0. How many chances has he had to do that compared to those with his feet? Mostto. Well he can't score on the bench. Christenson. Even harder to score while sat on a bucket. Macken. Best run of form was while playing alongside nardiello wasnt it? He now plays alongside KO who I don't recall setting up more than 5 goals since we signed him. Hume. Just a lack of time maybe? Ferenczi. Did really well with a hard working partner and some good balls from midfield. Pete left and he had to put up with KO as his partner and it was never going to work in a million years. The balls from midfield suddenly turned into long ball it and hopes as well.
i think that our strikers generally look slow because they don't communicate very well, and they're not coached and drilled to work as a unit (correct me if I'm wrong). It has been ages since we have had a pair of strikers who worked off each other, hunted as a pair, I watch in despair when you see that we don't ever have a striker following in on the gamble of a ball dropping loose, we never have one going front post the other coming in late from the edge of the area. When is the last time you saw one of our forwards beating his man to the near post and flicking on to his partner because he just knew where and when he'd be arriving? I'd settle for having an attacker beating a defender to the ball in the box. If you're a well drilled defense, and you're playing against two totally unlinked strikers, who don't really know what the plan is - you're always going to have the upper hand. You can buy who you like - Kevin Phillips would not be scoring week in week out for us. I'm no expert by any means, but even I can see that the problem is deeper that just who we have playing up front.
Nail on the head This season its not that we are missing chances - we just are not creating them I counted 2 proper chances today - one a good shot from Anderson - a midfielder running through which went just wide and the miss from Hume - but even Arsenal and Man U strikers miss more than they score so to expect us to score when creating one chance is a bit optimistic to say the least.
