He must have some credibility in this league. Perhaps Wigan or Blades if they get relegated or my guess is Cardiff (Ridsdale must rate him)

    League 1 club

An integral part of the worst defence in the division, why would a Championship club be tempted by that?

    You must be kidding!!

When de Zeeuw left us he had to drop down a division and he was absolutely top class and had been playing very well in the Premier league in the season before. In comparison Anthony Kay isa centre back from the very worst defence in the division, dropped very publically for drinking. Kay will have to drop down (imho) and rebuild his reputation somewhere with a lot of hard work. Kay has potential - but not enough consistency to go somewhere like Sheffield United or Wigan (who would be looking to go straight back up).

Because with the right guidance he will be a much better player than of late. My opinion that there is more than meets the eye to his departure.

dont exactly know there squad to be honest but i think he could do a job for most teams in the bottom 6 of the championship(presuming thats where scnuthorpe are expecting to be next season)

Kay pissed is Barnsley career up the wall. Whether he broke the drinking ban once, twice or twenty times he proved that he can't act like a pro. Simple instructions set down by the manager at a very important time for his employers, and he ignored them.

Whether he simply got used to having it easy under AR or lacked the ability to listain to instructions is another thing.

No player is bigger than the club, and if this is Davey's way of setting an example then I fully support it.

I remember it very different. Top class now, but at the time was shown up numerous occasions.

    You're absolutely right but...

I don't think the club did him any favours in the long term. How long has he played for us and we still didn't know his best position. I remember one season where he played every position bar in goal. If memory serves he played up front for 2 or 3 games as a target man (and scored).

He was the ill fated utility player, never a good sign because you end up being a jack of all trades.

One of our managers at the time should have said this is your best position, you're either good enough or not, and let the lad get on with his career. Been stale for too long and this is the result. I think the club should take some responsility in him not making the grade.

    I disagree very strongly

I think that in the championship our attacking football got us promoted, but the difference between us and Bolton going up was the professionalism at the back for the Bolton who really knew how to shut down when they wanted to. If we hadn't had de Zeeuw that season we wouldn't have gone up. Then in the premier league it was too much for de Zeeuw to do on his own and Moses wasn't good enough. Two De Zeeuws, for example, wouldhave been quitesomething and would have made a lot of difference (more than twice as good, is the point). It was like one man trying tohold back the tide in the Premier League - and in most cases in the Premier league, if one centre back is not good enough, the whole defence will look poor or look like they are getting 'shown up'. I could see that De Zeeuw was a class act (first touch, heading, sliding tackles, positional awareness, strength), and I'm no expert, so I presume that the genuine experts in the game would see where our defensive problemsreally were.

Anyway, the pointin this case is, that Kay is no where near as good as De Zeeuw(and I would be very surprised if he ever was any where near De Zeeuw) and De Zeeuw didn't find it easy to get another Championship club - so I don't think it will be straight forward for Kay (and I certainly don't expect him to move to a top Championship side).

    Not true

Conceded almost the same amount of goals in 16 game swhere he wasnt on the pitch as we did in the other 3 quarters of the season that he was.

45 goals conceded in all them games is pretty damn good considering colgan was behind him and heckingbottom at the side.
