I totally agree with the fact that the manager must have played for the club and has some kind of philosophy. We can't just bring in a man who is going to keep the club in the same place. Hill for me, has tried the 'passing football' philosophy and at the moment is failing.

Here is a few names to throw into the ring.

Steve Agnew - Has played for the club before and is a superb development coach. Might help bring some youngsters through. Never been given a chance to prove himself management wise and we may be his big break. Currently assistant boss at Hull.

Steve Davis - Believes in using his academy players with odd the exception of bringing in Premier League loanees or young lower league players. For some reason Hill never wants to bring anyone in from the top flight stating we don't have the finances, even though Crewe are as skint as us budget wise. As much as Crewe is a fantastic academy anyway, Davis has had a big hand in producing the likes of Nick Powell and AJ Leitch-Smith. Currently Crewe manager.

Stuart Gray - Again the younger players philosophy. Even though he managed Northampton Town and Southampton, I feel he's earned enough experience in coaching to be given the chance at the club he made 120 appearances for. Remember our budget isn't great. Currently doesn't have a club.

Joe Joyce - The theme carries on. Got a fantastic repuatation of bringing players through at Newcastle and again, hasn't had his chance in the professional football management. Deserves his chance if he wanted to leave the Premier League club. Currently Academy Director of Newcastle United.

Nicky Law - An outside bet. Managed in League 1 and League 2. A man who is still looking to climb the league ladder after a superb first season in the Blue Square Premier last season. Might be worth a punt with our finances if the new owners don't come in but obviously wouldn't be first choice. Currently manager of Alfreton Town.

Andy Liddell - Working his way up in the coaching world. A young coach in the game who would snap off our hands if we offered him the job. Currently doesn't have a club.

Neil Redfearn - Always a legend will be linked with the club. Coached at a number of different Football League teams and is another who is wanting his chance. Redfearn is one man who would get the support behind him straight away and also has experience of coaching younger players. Currently coaching the Leeds United Academy.

These names do not represent what I want but have all played for Barnsley Football Club, would be in our budget and has a philosophy.

As much as I dont want to be negative against Keith Hill and I will always get behind him, I can see the time is going to come in the next few months or so that we may have to look elsewhere i.e the Blackpool job.

Just out of interest why must the manager have played for us before. I agree it would be a nice to have and definitely some of our better managers did play for us previously but for example when we appointed Clarke as player manager after a long period of stagnation in the 4th division he hadnt played for us before, Neither had Ritchie who was one of our more sucessful appointments in recent times.

I wouldnt want to rule out someone just because they hadnt played for us in the past

In my opinion we need the experience we currently have to stay in this league.

I could be wrong but didn't Danny Wilson only join as player / assistant manager.

If Keith went I'd like to see Owen Coyle, Di Canio, John Sheridan, Peter Taylor or even Steve Kean have a go at the job.

why is it a fact that any new manager must have played for us?

cant we just have the manager we have got now who has done a good job.

If Keith departed, and the takeover never materialised, Ronnie Branson would get the job. And, I'd rather that than the likes of Slade, Blackwell, Coyle etc.
However, here's a name for you - Gary Megson....
