This thing with David Irving in Austria
He has again said he does not believe Hitler presided over a systematic attempt to exterminate Jews in Europe.
During his trial in Austria, Irving said he had changed his mind over claims the Holocaust did happen

So why did he get sent to prison???
How does this square with free speech???
Have we got free speech unless its something to do with Jews or muslims ???
PS. I've been to Auschwitz so I have seen the evidence. Or have I ???

Because Austria have a law that says Holocaust Denial is a crime - therefore you can be put in prison for it. A lunatic asylum would probably be more appropriate

Thanks for that Eaststander..........but if thats the case

What the hell was he doing in Austria in the first place
Surely a man of his intelligence is going to avoid the country
And second
If he is such a renowned historian and he has researched this and come to the conclusion that Hitler was not aware of everything that was going off - shouldn't this be taken seriously?

"Renowned historian" "intelligent"

Firstly intelligence does not preclude evil, bigotry or stupidity.

Secondly renowned by whom exactly?

He's a fascist

He was in Austria giving a lecture to some Far Right Extremists, telling them that the Holocaust never really happened and giving them some encouragement.

Germany and Austria don't take any crap off you if you've got links to the far right, quite understandable given their history.

He changed his mind Nudger

Admitted he was wrong. So no, it shouldn't be taken seriously.

However, he shouldn't be in gaol. It's the most ridiculous law I've ever heard. Europe is currently at odds with the muslim world over the right of free speach with all this cartoon nonsense and then Austria show what a bunch of loons they are by imprisoning someone for merely saying they didn't think a past event happened.

******* ludicrous.

That's the English spelling

If you want to follow the work of Noah Webster and go all American English, then that's your look out.

I wasn't knocking it Jay, I was beholding it to rejoice. I thought it was smart.

I think we should embrace our language of old, maybe even start riots when them bureaucrats come over here nicking all our miles.

Well the comments he was charged for were made years ago, he knew there was a warrant for his arrest and he decided to go to Austria knowing that warrant existed. So it could be argued that the Austrian authorities played right into his hands and gave him the publicity he wanted.
I agree that I don't believe it should be an imprisonable offence to make those statements, it's not incitement to race hatred or inciting acts of violence, it has only ended up giving him publicity - any neo-nazis that support him won't see the arrest and think "oh, he's wrong then", they'll just see it as part of a cover up of "the truth" that vindicates what he says.

He changed his mind about there not being a Holocaust at all, he changed his mind that there weren't any gas chambers. He is still saying that it wasn't an organised mass slaughter though.

Well the irony is that the fascist knobheads are now debating Irvings about turn.. or is that a retreat like his heroes in the SS. And some of the brain dead scum suckers believe that he's sold out and others and the other inbreds think that he's changed his attitude because he wanted leniancy.

Its not about upsetting the Jews.. the fact is that the gas chambers and the final solution did happen- or maybe the survivors just tattooed their arms for the fun of it. Irving is a vicious racist who has tried to make paletable to the ignorant and the susceptable that the crimes of the Nazi's didn't happen, because this is the main stubbling block to the toss bags getting credability.

It must be hard being a Nazi... do you deny the holocaust happened or do you take pride in Hitler murdering 6 million.

By the way I had friends who had relatives who died in the gas chambers and they will tell you clearly that the holocaust did happen.
