.............where are the Australians in these olypic games ???? Sports mad nation........always seem to be in the top 5 medal winners.........and I haven't heard anything about them during this olypics Whats happened ??? One things for sure........they didn't like us getting 19 golds last time around..........we may not get that many medals this time.........But yer can bet yer bottom dollar that the Aussie public are looking at the medal table and thinking 'how can those pale looking foookers win so many medals'?
It's a good question, because Australia are usually mixing it at the top and are sports mad. They're having a nightmare
Agreed Roth Tyke But ignoring such comments..........could it be that Britain: 1) is now starting to take sport more seriously.........I'm old enough to remember that sport in Britain was something that you did if you couldn't do a 'proper' job. 2) funding of sports has increased enourmously through lottery funding etc. 3) as a consequence of funding we now have the people in this country with the sports science capabilities.
The mood is quite low I think I've jinxed them by moving here. Their cricket has gone tits up too. I think I'll move to the US next, followed by China, then we'll be top of the medal table. Of course the main reason they're doing so poorly is because they tend to be interested in and are good at the same sports that we do so their demise is directly related to our rise. This is the main reason they've got all those silver medals. Worse still, the kiwis are kicking their arse too. They'll point to the fact that apparently quite a few influential Aussie coaches have jumped ship to join Team GB. But it's probably just the effects of the PlayStation generation finally catching up with them.
Host nations often do well. In caseof Aussies though they traditionally do well in swimming which the US have dominated this time
think you'll find it's: 4) Team GB have home advantage. don't rule that out, it's a massive boost compared to everyone else. not complaining like.
It's certainly a positive factor As it's been for the likes of Spain, Australia, China & Greece in recent Olympics. The atmosphere created by the home crowds has been tremendous and has been duplicated at all the venues. It must be fantastic for the British Olympians to receive such backing.
Re: It's certainly a positive factor When I used to live there they would always point out the unfairness of the medal table being based on Gold medals rather than total number of medals won. They are not having a good games this time around but are in 7th place according to number of medals.
