Why praise has been heaped on Robins for taking Thompson off and changing the formation 25 minutes in?

As far as I'm aware he wasn't injured, and although it does show promise that he noticed a problem on the pitch and made a change accordingly, that should never really involve changing the personel on the pitch, just a tweak in tactics.

I mentioned it on Saturday, but taking someone off 25 minutes in to their debut? Hardly a confidence boost for a new signing is it? (and yes, I know he was a Davey signing!)

Not a criticism here as I wasn't at the game to comment, just interested, as I find it completely bizarre.

    And replacing him with KO.

They'd be burning Davey at the cross if he'd done that.

Its relief to see a manager adapt to the game

Obviously he made a mistake with the formation - understandable given he doesnt know the players
Also Thompson looked completely lost - so I dont think he could change the configuration and do much with Thompson so he cut his losses and made a change - which to give you a clue as to how bad Thompson was - was bringing on Oddjob and reducing the midfield to 4 and it improved things a bit.

his predecessor would have persevered and hoped for the best

In all honesty though the changes that really made a difference were the enforced change of Hammil for JCR
and more particularly the bringing on of Hume

I dont think we will be seing Thompson again

    It's nice to see...

Someone change it about and tweak it before the 80 + minute mark for a change!

Unlike a certain Simon who'd be stubborn until his formation and 'game plan' worked so he could go and spread his joy with Media afterwards.

FFS - its one game! Give it a fecking rest - anyone would think hes our savior despite losing. Davey won his first game in charge - so by your logic shouldnt it be Robins out?

    He wasnt very good

but not significantly worse than some others have been in recent games

Just didnt look like he knew how he was supposed to be playing and sort of was like the kid who doesnt fit in to the team getting in the way

My honest opinion is its too soon to write him off from what I have seen but he didnt fit the holding midfielder role in front of the back 4. Whether he could do a decent job as a defender I dont know

I guess Robins will make his own mind up

    RE: He wasnt very good

I missed the first 20 minutes or so of commentary so didn't hear what was said about him. As you say one game is far too soon to write him off and also as a new signing he needs time to settle in.

There must be a reason why a full team of footballers are running round the pitch like headless chickens.

I reckon they need to go on a team building course or something!! There's something terribly wrong, as we know some can play to alot better standards so what is going on i don't know.

If Thompson didn't know what he was doing

Then do you question why Thompson started in the first place?

Surely Robins will have done a bit of homework and realised Colace is the best holding midfielder at the club?

I just don't see the fact he made a substitution 25 minutes in to a game as a positive - sorry.

He probably saw him playing a squre ball across his own box to a Reading player in the buildup to their equaliser.

I do question why Thompson started

I dont know why Colace wasnt in that role

The positive is that he made a mistake and tried to correct it
ie he adapted to the game as it progressed

Something that Davey never did until the 75th minute.

    - You are right its not really something to celebrate too much - much better if he had got the starting 11 right

I am sure that the reason people are so excited is that Davey never made changes and Robins has - that is the real reason.

Where were you by the way - did you get there or were you stuck working

Stuck at work for a home game - shocking

Got two weeks holiday coming up so couldn't pull any strings - we usually win at Watford when i go!

I appreciate it's encouraging that we now seem to have a manager willing to shake things up no matter what stage the game is at, even admitting in the process that he got team selection wrong, just confused by all the raving about it on here.

A point at Derby would be nice, followed by a couple of loan signings to balance the team, and then back to back home wins!

    Thompson was bad but

I didnt think he was anywhere near the worst on the pitch

ADS was absolute **** and i mean absolute ****. A woeful display and I dont think he even wants to be a red. Repeatedly robbed of the ball. Worst player on pitch and he's fecking stealing a living.

Oddjob was shocking, worst ive seen him.

Halfredsson is bonkers, im undecided, he could be a legend or ****, touch amazing, common sense nil. Turned 2 of theirs inside out one minute then tried some ridiculous clearance from the area 2 minutes later and swiped at fresh air.

    Gray did nowt

Moore is a season past worth keeping

Hassell, love him but needs to shine in league 1

    JCR WTF

    Hume changed the game.

You could also say that Robins realised he had made a wrong decision. Not to make a change to the game etc.

    Just being objective.
