It's always been important. the higher you go the more important it becomes. At the champ level when ball retention quite important it's a big deal. At the lowest level you will have a goalkeeper than can shot stop and that's anyone who's a pro. you go up the levels to the very top you have to be very good at everything. Shot stopping, kicking, communication punching, confidence and there'll be other things i've missed out.
Hemsworth is correct. The higher you go the better your all round game needs to be. Luke Steele's kicking as always been an issue for me but at this level he has usually got away with it. His shot-stopping for me as usually been excellent
I would say Luke Steeles a 5/10 goalkeeper. To be with one of the teams thats likely to be promoted he'll have to be 6/7 out of 10. 7 bottom prem team. 8 mid premteam. 9 top champ prem goalkeeper. It's the same in any champ team. you can have a part missing at 23 if a prem team and they will work on it. If you have facets missing at 28 then you'll not be there.
He makes mistakes. We all do. I think it's the consistency of mistakes that gives you a view of a player. For me, Steele is replaceable but the issue is who do we replace him with on the budget and wage structure?
Impossible to say, unless you can say 100% what hes on, and what the other Goalkeepers want then it's guess work. Luke Seems a good egg too. That's important. Good speaker on Camera and quite happy to talk to fans which i found out.
So based on that, at the moment he is worth perservering with? Possibly so given circumstances in my opinion
We will have to wait and see on that one. At the end of the day, for me Steele is 'ok' and he will do for now. He is also a good lad as you say and that's important. I know he has his big fans too and that's fair enough but I have seen better keepers at Oakwell before and I will see better keepers in future
How do you know what he's like? Played quite a few games for Arsenal since his time at oakwell when he was 18/19. Played apparently really well at Hull too.
I remember well. Stoppage time at home to Luton Town, and then PNE away after Colgan had been sent off. Nightmare.
He was injured and he was only 18/19. Wasn't the easiest of starts live on Sky against Preston then at home against Luton. Saved some pens at Blackpool i think.
