All these who are kicking off now about Israeli attacks on Hamas in Gaza - whywasn't there a similar fussabout Hamas's sustained and indiscriminate use of Qassam rockets on Israeli civilian targets? Are people so blatantly prejudiced or am I missing something?

    I'll be honest I haven't a clue what's going on

If someone could sum it up in a few sentences - if that's possible - then I'd be grateful. Then again a lot of that happens in the Middle East baffles me

    It's the disproportionate response

4 Israelis killed versus 400+ Palistinians

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/7808257.stm
"More than 400 people are believed to have died in a week of raids on Gaza. Four Israelis have died in the rocket attacks Israel is trying to prevent."

They should have waited until Hamas succeed in hitting a school or something. Or maybe ask them to move their installations out of civilian areas.

Perhaps everyone in Gaza should be killed then.

    What's your solution?

    But Hamas-Alkieda-Muslim Extremists

Don't worry about killing kids. They send them out with explosive belts to blow them into Kingdom Come. In Iran they hang them, publicly.

The problem is complex and Israel have occupied land thats not theirs. But Hamas don't only want it back they want to wipe Israel off the face of the earth in regaining it.

It needs the UN to get some guts and tell both sides to settle round a table.

..."killing everyone in Gaza" or otherwise. I'm pointing out the old duplicity about the middle east conflict that pervades the media (this board included.)

So Hamasis trying to destroy Israel by damaging its pavements with faulty rockets? And I wonder if anyone's suggested to them that the return fire would be far less damaging if they didn'tuse their civilian population as human shields.

I don't think anyone's suggesting its a "fair contest." Hamas knows full well it leaves Israel with no choice. Looks to me like they're picking the fight, dictating the conditions and the outcome and then wailing to the rest of the world about it as if they're the victims. Trouble istoo many people aredaft enough to go for it.

Our press and politicians are weak in so far as they gave little publicity/protest to actions by Islamists on the peoples of South Sudan, Christians in Orissa (India), Phillippines etc. Once Israel attacks after months of provocation, it's time for Ken Livingstone and his ilk to be throwing their hands in the air, lamenting the death toll inflicted by the defender. Hamas /Hezballah knew what the reaction would be by Israel, and also the sympathy it would draw from the anti-semitic press in various quarters.

I don't advocate violence, but what are they supposed to do then? Just live under the shadow of a stronger, more modern, more westernised state which wants them out? Put up with it and stop complaining?

I hear what you're saying mate....

....but Jews/Israelis have been around in that part of the world for quite some time. The problem the Muslims have is that their presence anywhere in the middle east is unacceptable. I'm not saying the Israelis are without blame, far from it, but I think we all know who, down the years, the real antagonists are.

Imagine this scenario - all sat round a table - guarantees offered.

To Israel -if the Muslims agree to let you live unmolested within your borders without kicking off will you do so and stay there?

To the Muslim states - If the Israelis agree to stay within their borders and live in peace will you agree not to kick off any more?

Truthfully, what do you think the respective responses would be?
