Looking at this list/table from last season, taking out the two above us who've been promoted, and adding Blackpool, Wigan and Milwall who've no chance of averaging more than us, there's only dem blades or perhaps Bradford who I could see averaging more than we will. Remember, that average last season was during a bloody **** season. I actually think that were we to do well this season we'd give dem blades a run for their Tevez money. Different story at home, mind. http://the72.co.uk/31561/away-attendance-league-one-averages-201415/
As I pointed out last week though with the home attendances; Barnsley has a population of around 71,000 meaning to have an average gate of around 9,000 in league 1 is pretty decent. Considering Bristol City had an average of just 3,000 more last season when they were top of the league, and have a city with a population of just short of half a million. I think if you looked at the relativity of attendances and population, we'd be pretty high up. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
Preaching to the converted there, mate. Someone did some research into that very type of analysis and we came out as a better supported club than both Sheffield clubs, Leeds and Middlesbrough. But behind the likes of Burnley and Chesterfield.
Sheff United will have the most unless they're mid table table most of the season and we're at the top for most. Bradford might as well if they have a decent season, what with their thousands of new season ticket holders. Coventry might if they're pushing for the play offs. All ifs and buts. If we have a "good" season for once (i.e. top 6) we'll easily average 1,300-1,400. But then if the likes of United/Cov are top all season they'll sell out everywhere, not even sure we'd be able to do that. We ought to at least have as many as last season looking at all the local games we've got, regardless of how good/bad we are on the pitch.
Can't see Coventry topping us, as you say, the amount of local games suits us and Bradford, Blunts. One thing that's in Blunts favour, we give them a 6,000 away end, they give us 3,000 tickets.
The actual Barnsley and District population is 221,000. The 71,000 doesnt include darfield, houghton, goldthorpe, bolton, thurnscoe, penistone, millhouse green, oxpring, wortley, hoylandswaine or tankersley.
Aye, but then you can play that card with every other club too. We're all within a borough, or district.
If we fell short of 1000 average, can't see us leaping by 300-500 unless we are top six. Be in the top four after a number of cities. OR could say the novelty of new grounds quickly gone and we maybe drop?
We had 1069 average last season. Dem blades had 1198 the season before, so it's not a foregone conclusion. Remarkable really that we're that well supported away from home where we rarely win. Just under a thousand in that dreadful relegation season from the Championship? Barmy.
