That's great and he should rightly receive all the plaudits for that, which he has in abundance over the years! It certainly doesn't make him exempt from any criticism whatsoever tho. I don't think he's lazy or lacking effort, I just think his attitude this season is questionable. He looks and sounds like he doesn't want to be here. I think he's seen his mate (mowatt) jump ship and probably double his wages, all whilst he's stuck here in awful form trying to steer a sinking ship.
If you've acted in a fickle manner, then it's aimed at you. If you haven't, it isn't. Because further shattering the confidence of one of our few proven goalscorers is really going to help isn't it.
I haven't said that, not once. I've said, for whatever reason it's just not happening for him and I don't understand why he's undroppable. Any other player who's had a bad few games can expect to get dropped, but not Woodrow. I just don't get it and no one in this entire thread has been able to give a single valid reason why.
Yup this. It’s a Barnsley tradition targeting players and not even the poor ones. I remember Nicky Eaden getting slated bu all and sundry. Many soothsayers on here slagging Conor off and the list is endless.
Amazingly for 5 managers Woodrow has been pretty much the first pick. Perhaps they are in a better place than us interweb peeps to judge a player?
I didn’t say you had, as already mentioned, different managers have continued to select him so they obviously see his value for the team. I’d say, judging him or comparing him on his past goal scoring record against the his current role he has is a poor starting point.
For some of those managers he's been immense. For the last two (and Val to an extent) he's been severely lacking. I'm just trying to understand why he continually gets to play every minute of every game when he's largely ineffective and every other player (some of whom even after playing well) gets dropped. Surely you must see the bizarreness of that? It's just not normal.
Thank you for sharing this post. 4 years with the club,150 appearances, 50 goals. In this modern age of football, Cauley is a hero,he is a great servant to the club.
We know what he said , every Barnsley fan I know supports the team regardless of how well they are doing , it doesn’t make them fickle to criticise when we aren’t playing well , opinions are everywhere in football even ‘professional’ ones .
He is a goal poacher not a fetch and carry player but is totally out of order with his remarks about the fans some of us have been watching football since his father was a kid. The captains job has done him no good whatsoever. Before he criticises the fans he should spend some time learning to do the most basic of football skills that is controlling the ball. His first touch is abysmal
It seems we're actually saying that there are no circumstances whatsoever that Cauley should be dropped. Ever.
Cauley's link up play is atrocious, he slows things down so6 much which allows the opposition defence to get set / organised. He also mis places so many simple passes. Now the goals have dried up then what is he offering this team?
I can’t help but think the high press isn’t done as effectively as it could and Cauley is the one who I think repeatedly doesnt do it properly. Im sure he could correct me but my example is… the defender with the ball is 20 yards away, Cauley runs very fast towards him for 15 yards then slows down and watches him play a pass whilst doing sidesteps (sidesteps look good?). I think that last 5 yards is crucial and you need to get into the players personal space and rush em into a potential mistake or even tackle em / touch the ball. I would say that CW knows that it looks good on the GPS stats belt as he ran fast many times in the game, I just wish our players would try harder to force some mistakes every so often. I assume im wrong as im not a professional footballer so im happy for anyone to correct me on this. Im also really hoping he regains confidence and form as soon as.
Who's his replacement though? A bunch of lads who aren't good enough. I'd rather pick the bloke who we know is good enough in the hope he regains his form, than players who for all their effort and endeavour are not good enough at this level.
Would you continue to pick an out of form goalkeeper who keeps letting goals in week after week in the hope that eventually he'll regain the form you know he had 18 months ago or would you take him out and play the back up keeper instead?
I’ve just discussed this with someone and they correctly point out that this may be what he’s told to do to dictate the pass direction. Might have been told not to try n win headers and claim a foul instead. Maybe he’s completely doing exactly as instructed and therefore everything right. Maybe
