where have I heard that before? Ho yes, wasn't it prior to the previous two seasons? There are some on here who feel/imply, rightly or wrongly, that we are a small club and as such we should not inspire to become, once again, a trying little club aiming for the dizzy hights of the prem. We have reached our level by struggling to avoid relegation season after season, so the philosophical few maintain. If we find ourselves in a relegation fight season after season it's not because we are not ambitious it's because we are a little club with limited resources. Therefore, attempting a trialist approach without spending megga money will satisfy the ones who are easily pleased.

    It's always the same........

We could have signed Kaka, Ronaldo, Rooney and it wouldn't change

Even though i am a little worried about the lack of/quality of signings

haha, proper laugh when i see stuff like this...

no we wouldn't moan if we got players like that, they're the best you can get.

if we can obtain the best players we could possibly get (i.e. championship standard players) we'd be happy. fact is, we're going for League 2/Conference garbage.

    for example:

Hammill: general consensus, everyones happy with that because he's a top half championship standard player.
Gray: experienced striker with proven championship quality, people are happy we're linked.

Luton/Mansfield/Norwegian league players: no ones heard of them, how can we be optimistic? and don't use the "we didn't know about Ferenczi/Colace/Souza/Etc" comeback, because even they aren't world beaters

It was more negative with 3 games to go in April ....

...... 'cos all those who wanted Davey out were saying so on here, and all those who are backing him up now were saying absolutely NOTHING to support him, and had not done so since about February.

They all just came out of their holes 5 mins after the Plymouth match to tell all of us so called negative so and so's to 'get behind him' and how 'stability is the way forward'. But if we had been relegated that day, they would have been shouting for Davey's head louder than the rest of us.

Oh yes, the 'pro-Davey' lot are very fickle, very fickle indeed, with very short memories - you just watch if we lose the first 5 games - just watch how many of those who want him in charge at this moment, still do by the end of August

    agreed

Their mindset changed totally based on the final day of the season just as it did based on beating chelsea

To be fair thats becuase anti-Davey peopel said if we kept him we'd go down and they were wrong

We didn't go down so people judged him based on the season. The difference in mindset is whether you thought last season was a very difficult division in which staying up would be an achievement or whether you thought it was a poor division that we should have done better in.

We were wrong, thankfully, but it was far too ....

.... close for comfort, and more down to the bottom 3's constant failings rather than our good performances

BUT the reality is he is still here SO why not put Davey prejudice to one side

The only benefit I can see in continual slaggging him off now the decision has been made to keep him is so you can say "I told you so" and be all clever if we have a bad season

because this is a barnsley football club board to discuss barnsley football club

Are you suggesting that anyone who feels negatively about davey and/or his signings or lack of should keep quiet? Are you suggesting that the ONLY reason anybody who isn't wetting themselves with excitement about the new season could possibly choose to share their opinion is in order to say i told you so?

Not syaing your wrong to feel like that. All I'm saying is not every team can continually improve. Some teams will, some will decline, others will stabilise. Either way Davey is in charge for next season and the one thing a club requires for success is to be pulling in the right direction. Rumours of players not were seemingly wrong so the fans need to get on board. What do we achieve by not getting behind the team for next season? And again, we should criticise but constructively, not constant negativity
