Transport policy. Put on a 'high speed' train service from Sheffield to Leeds via Barnsley in a morning which, surprise surprise! greatly increases passenger numbers. However, instead of sticking to the SLR and providing 3 carriages (long ones)- keep putting on 2 car 144 short carriages at rush hour. Result -standing room only from Barnsley in conditions you wouldn't let sheep travel in - (if you can get on at all! ) Trying to attract business people - don't make me laugh. Problem is not enough rolling stock and the service credit fines are so pathetic they don't bother sticking to the agreements. Luckily I have Broadband and a VPN laptop to connect to work so only have to go in now and again. Feel sorry for people who travel on it every day. what will happen when they introduce congestion charges in Leeds. The trains can't cope now . Oh! and no plans to buy new trains!! Cretins in charge!!
It can only get worse. I travel back in the evening rush hour and that is shocking, especially in the run up to Christmas.... made worse by the fact the kids know they'll get on for nowt if they come back from Meadowhall at these times (if they get on the train). TonyT (moaning again)
Totally Agree.. I get the train from Barnsley to Leeds every morning and its a pain in the arse.. Its a real struggle to get on most days... Get a third carriage on you tight Barstewards!
RE: Totally Agree.. yep I get the 7:34 usually...always get a seat but not when it gets to Cas ! I use the 6:10 as well.....great stuff gets to Leeds dead quick....so why not do the same shorter route on the 7:10 !!!
RE: Totally Agree.. Crackers isn't it? Its like a cattle truck when i get on at 8.12.. Some nice eye candy on the way there and back though lol
The train compaines are PRIVATE and therefore nowt to do with the government. If they don't want to spend, they won't. Complain to the SRA rather than the BBS...
RE: The train compaines are PRIVATE As everyone should I blame the tory Barstewards for the crap train service, the demise of rover etc etc but surely people can complain about it on here if they want Paul? I get the Leeds-Sheffield fast train and its f-ing crap
RE: The train compaines are PRIVATE Complain about owt you want on here. I go from Huddersfield to Manchester and the service has got better in the last 18months, more trains, more carriages and it's more reliable. There's also new trains promised for next Feb. It's expensive but cheaper and quicker than driving and parking.
Train? I thought a lentil loving environmentalist such as yourself would glide to work on a spiders web balloon, powered by the breath of a fawn - or summat.
Know exactly what you mean.... ...as I had the great pleasure of shoehorning myself on to the 8.12 from Barnsley to Wakefield the other morning. So tightly packed I had to use my not-so-brute strength to force the throng back far enough for the doors to be able to bloody close. Fecking ridiculous, oh and the 'fast' train back from Wakefield was twenty minutes late one night this week, even though the journey from Leeds to Sheff should only take around an hour and a quarter in total! More good work from our dedicated transport providers, although I have to say not necessarily the Government's fault at the moment.
It might help if they charged Perhaps they could afford to buy new carriages then. I use the train that leaves South Elmsall for Wakefield at approx 8 on a morning and they have not collected the fares on that train for 2 years. Every single regular traveller I know has stopped buying advance monthly tickets becuase they know that no one will ever check them. How the company runs a service I'll never know. It could only happen in this bloody country.
It all seems so simple More carriages, more conductors or tube station style gates. Invest heavily in rail freight to reduce motorway congestion. And why are the conservatives to blaim for the downfall of Rover???????????? If a business is not able to compete then of course it will fail. Same thing happened with the mines: less demand for the product, couldn't compete with alternative sources, therefore no need for the producers. OK the gov may have gone totally the wrong way about doing it, but it was probably inevitable
