Wonder what bullsh1t they'll try and feed us this time. Anything to try and take the heat off the sh1tty management situation, the results and the league position. Problem is, some fans will believe it all.
For me its not a matter of 'believing' something. I've heard stories about Howard's behaviour (whether it be alcohol related or just issues within the dressing room) to make up my own mind about this situation without the club feeding anything. The summer was the mistake. Either tie him to a deal or cash in. This situation was always going to unfold when we did neither. Howard doesn't want to be at the club as far as I'm concerned, and thats from various people that I choose to believe. Does that mean that I don't rate him or I think he's a w*nker? Not at all. He's given some fantastic memories, he's not a Barnsley lad, and if he can move to a bigger club or a club where he feels he can have more success, then he owes us nothing. But while I think we'll miss him, this situation has been developing and it stems from a failure to make a concrete decision over what to do in the summer.
I agree with a lot of that - whatever the issues about the player, which are probably exaggerated by hearsay, the fact remains that he can go for nothing after Christmas and we've got to make the most of that by doing something now. The pish poor management is that the matter was not settled during the summer (either a sale for a fee reflecting true worth or a new contract) and, more importantly, that we now sit bottom of the table with a wafer thin squad. If any of our back four or central midfield (ie the heart of the team) are unavailable then the only vaguely credible cover is Bobby Hassell, which is a ridiculous position to leave ourselves in with so many key games coming up (and Colace picking up almost a booking a game). To be perfectly honest I couldn't give two hoots what the statement says about Howard 'cos the thing that matters is who's available for two mammoth games next week. I sincerely hope the statement says that:- 1) The club recognises that it fecked up in the summer by not selling or offering a new contract; or 2) They offered Howard the same contract as the highest paid player at the club and he turned it down. Then we can move on, 'cos by far the most important thing is they say that the club recognises that it is bottom of the league with a threadbare squad and we will be using our five loan slots to get in:- - Some defensive cover (preferably with some experience and a bit of pace) - Some central midfield cover - Someone with a left foot - A big strong striker who can win headers, hold the ball up and cause problems further up the field than Macken - A proven finisher with pace I guess pigs might fly but rather than dwelling on Howard I'd rather Monday was about building on Saturday, the recent clean sheets and giving us the 'Box Office' signings (albeit on loan) we need and were promised.
oh dear daveys starting to get people on his machine. bottom line daveys made the situation. And now hes gunna try and use it as a get out of jail card. he fecked up thinking they can cash in on big money and they did'nt credit to howard for coming to the game yesterday if this sheffutd transfer is a done deal he could have stayed away and hid but he did'nt.
I think it is obvious that nothing was done about Howard, who must have been a thorn in Davey's side recently, due to the lack of cover. I dont think that it is a coincidence that it has all erupted now at a time when both Anderson and Colace are both available and appear to be playing well. Wether Lean is as good as Howard or not, when he first came here everyone was looking upon him as a replacement for Howard who we expected to depart in the Summer. He probably did not depart in the Summer because no one thought he was worth the inflated price that was expected for him.
I think the whole situation is down to the fact that we do not have a chairman. Cryne has said all along that he does not have the time, experience or inclination to be involved in the day to day business of the club, has that changed? This leaves us with two directors, perhaps only one during the close season who have little or no experience negotiating contracts etc. Remember this is their job not Daveys!
