IMHO I can't see the logic in it. I sit a couple of rows from the touchline East Stand Lower and not once have i seen or heard him marshall, cajole or bollock any of his team mates. Perkins seems to do this. I know Hill said originally the captaincy is not a big deal he expects 11 captains on the pitch, but come on we need someone on there as a leader!
Finally someone with some logic!!! HE IS NOT A CAPTAIN and should be stripped of the armband ASAP before it spoils his game anymore!!!
After their second goal most of the team looked at Butterfield and he just shrugged his shoulders as though he was saying 'nowt to do with me'
Personally I think it was a long shot to try to get him to stay nothing more, personally I think it was a big mistake because a captain should be able to inspire even bully team mates into greater efforts he isn't capable of that. BUT its not his fault, who among you lot would have turned it down?. The kids a very good player and I think a move now is too soon for him (will probably still happen though - again who amongst us in a similar position would turn down the chance with all that goes with it when its offered) , he has only (relatively) just started producing what he is capable of and still struggles for consistency. (none of which obviously stops the usual experts amongst the Oakwell faithful getting their hooks into him because they always know better and need somebody to kick)
Re: 'Anti-Butterfield' Thread Cant really compare him to Keith Andrews, who has so much more experience both in football AND as a captain. He shouldn't be captain, there are at least five better candidates, but that criticism should not be directed at Butterfield. He's unlikely to turn around and refuse it. I also think it was given to him in the hope of getting him to stay, making him feel important etc. Should go to either Foster, Hassell, Edwards or Perkins in my opinion.
Re: 'Anti-Butterfield' Thread Can i just ask what is he meant to do like. Steele, is he meant to get gloves on and parry that shot wide and save that pen that really should have been saved and steele knew it himself with is reaction JAy Mcevley Rob edwards James McNulty Scott wiseman. Is he meant to tell a welsh international or Scottish international how to defend? Perkins James O'brien MAtt Done VazTe is he meant to tell a Irlish u21 or Portuguese u21 how to play on wing? Craig davies. Is he meant to tell a striker with 8 goals and a player whos play for is Wales how to score goals? Because if you think thats what he's going to do that cherry bottle must have been a big one.
Captain as per Wikipedia The team captain of a football team, sometimes known as the skipper,is a team member chosen to be the on-pitch leader of the team: it is often one of the older or more experienced members of the squad, or a player that can heavily influence a game. The team captain is usually identified by the wearing of an armband. 1 JB wears the armband 2 He as often heavily influenced the game for Barnsley FC 3 He is not however one of the older ones 4 Experienced? Depends upon how you measure experience 5 Leadership has many different styles. Whatever the style, respect off the others should be paramount. I have never seen a team mate disrespecting him (unlike some on here). For me, his form of leadership comes via his footballing prowess. He is the captain whether some supporters like it or not and please bear in mind that he cannot be all things to all people. Give him time to grow into the role.
And another thing The likes of steele, foster, edwards Mcevley doyle, o'biren don't need the arm band to say something. If they want to say something they will say it. Steele on monday gave Vaz te and verbal attack and that was across half of pitch.
I noticed that. A few looked at him and he shrugged, put his head down and ignored them. Get our best right back in the side and give him the captaincy. In my opinion Butterfield was made captain to raise his value at a tribunal, nothing more, nothing less.
Re: 'Anti-Butterfield' Thread He sets an example on the pitch. In the system we are playing he's the best at it. He understands the art of passing better than any other player.
Re: 'Anti-Butterfield' Thread I want to know if these"international" players are so untouchable, and not in need of any input, why we have lost the last three games.
