Would it be harsh to take it away from Cranie or should we let Winnall or Hourihane have it? Just seen the thread about Winnall and 100% agree. Hourihane is also a team leader which looks good at tracking back at defending and getting forward as attacking. Don't mind Cranie just doesn't seem the type of player to motivate the team
I think Cranie was given it due to seniority in the squad and I'd not risk unsettling anything now. Surely other players don't need an armband in order to show their leadership? I did think in the summer that Hourihane would be our captain this season mind seeing as he was Plymouth's skipper. But as I say I'd leave it as is now, he can take it next season.
No chance whitey, I sat and watched him and saw him speak once and he shouted "come on come on" other than that there was no communication from him along the back four let alone organising, motivating or rollicking anyone! And he doesn't lead by example either, the lad is not a leader, organiser or motivator! Winnall and hourihane on the other hand not shut up and the way they encouraged and guided the young lads was brilliant. Just my opinion like, can anyone give me positives as to why he should be skipper ?
Because he's experienced, plays at centre half (is regarded as the best in the division by many) and is both calm and assured on the ball. Maybe the lads actually like him as captain too? Danny (the manager) does. Which'll do for me.
I'll agree with you on the last two the lads do seem to like him and Danny does obviously see something in him again probably through his experience in a team of younger lads. But for me he doesn't lead or bring anything that you would expect of a leader. This is not cranie bashing but I don't find him particularly calm and assured on the ball. Nice to have a difference of opinions and also nice that we have two players in winnall and hourihane that are both trying to lead on the pitch which is something we have missed for quite some time
One of the most assured centre halves I've seen for us. Great technique. Calm. It's his positioning and sometime lack of 'gerrin in theeear' that lets him down occasionally. But I think he's the perfect captain. I remember threads like this about Jacob. And I understood them. He was also quiet, not a Gerry Taggart vocal captain. But he led by example with his performances. He led us to the highest position we've been in since April 2000 (until crocked). I believe Cranie will lead us similarly, through his performances. Cue someone referring to his own goal last weekend....
I understood why butterfield was captain, similar to why beckham was captain in that it raised there game and they led by example trying to take games by the scruff of the neck. I don't see this with cranie, he needs some one to get him by the scruff of the neck and organise him. Maybe I've just got an old fashioned view of a captain
I dont think there is any need for a captain at all these days. I cant think of any job they do that couldnt be done by the manager who is sat yards away. Toss of the coin? Manager. Controlling unruly players? Manager. Motivating players? Everyone
I never said change him. I said Cranie doesn't seem to be a motivator. I like Cranie. Great technique and skill but he isnt a captain. it is true to what Ponty said. it may make him mad and want to leave by taking the privilege away from him.
Most of the captains responsibilities lie off the field. According to the secret footballer anyway..... http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2012/mar/02/the-secret-footballer-captain
Most of those duties are pathetic. Organising time off? Negotiating bonuses? Piss off. Contracts should specify that anyway surely. As for handing in team sheets. Get the manager to do it. Hes in charge
Anyway its not like cricket where the captain has a lot of responsibility and has to make key tactical decisions.
Does it really matter who wears the armband? Any one of them can provide encouragement. I wouldn't take it away from Cranie, he's probably the most experienced on the pitch who is likely to play every game.
Cranie pretty much by default for me. I don't think we've got any natural leaders at the club so Cranie deserves it pretty much on been a centre back, a regular & been here for the last couple of seasons for me. Forget leadership & communication, at times some of our young players will make mistakes regardless of whether there's a 'leader' in the team or not. Nearly all young players do
Craine not calm on the ball I hope you are joking I relax every time he has the ball he's in total control Think he's a great player and well Suited to the captains role Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
