I was on sheffield road today at about 5pm when the traffic came to a standstill in front of me. As i stopped a few seconds later a car drove into the back of me. Ive took all the blokes insurance details and stuff. The damage is minimum few bumps, scratches and chips but noting serious like cracks or dents. He accepts full responsibility for the accident but what would you guys do? Would you bother to go through insurance or not?? Cheers in advance!
see what monday bring but make sure he know that you will go through the books and make sure its done at a garage of your choice your his
Haha Scarfe, im unlucky. Always get ****s driving into me haha. Its 2 in 3 years by the way ! Cheers Tyrone, i think im going to go get it priced up and then ask him if he wants to pay me that way or whether he would rather go through insurance.
Someone bumped into the back of me a couple of years ago, just a small tap, but left a crease / mark in the bumper. He accepted total responsibility and I got it sorted on the insurance. Wish I'd not bothered as the shoddy repair was worse than the mark. The insurance repair centre (in Sheffield) rather than replace the damaged bumper, filled and resprayed. They also resprayed the boot (hatchback) and both rear wings. The paint job was awful with spit / spray marks all up the wings. They agreed it wasn't perfect and took it back for another day, but all they appeared to have done, was to buff all the spit / spray marks out. It still wasn't perfect, but I'd been inconvenienced enough and was just glad to get my car back. To be honest, wish I'd just asked the guy for a £100 and I'd have lived with the initial mark.
I wouldn't bother over something so minimal. Even you have been involved in a none fault accident it can put your premiums sky high. Crazy but true.
It shouldn't do! Only if the other driver drove off so your insurance company couldn't recover their losses. Besides, Ozza has no need to even inform his insurers, he can take it all through the other bloke's. Plus they'll be obliged to provide him with a courtesy car whilst his is being repaired.
Even if it isn't your fault, you still have to put the claim on your quotes when applying for new insurance. It can effect the quote. Not so if your staying with existing insurance company.
Your insurance terms and conditions generally state that you have to tell your insurer if you are involved in an accident so whether he claims or not he should inform them. However most people don't if they are simply settling it privately with cash which would obviously mean neither party's insurance premiums go up. If he decides to make a claim on the other persons insurance though he MUST inform his own insurer and I suspect that the other persons insurance company would contact them anyway. Regardless of the fact that he wouldn't be at fault his premiums would still rise because he had been involved in an accident. He's 'proved' himself to be someone who gets involved in accidents (whether strictly his fault or not) and also proved that he is someone who will make a claim on insurance so therefore he would be a higher risk resulting in bigger premiums and all for something that isn't his fault at all. I could be wrong but I believe I have seen of people successfully claiming EXTRA money off the other party for the increase in premiums for the next year so that could be worth remembering.
